I've tried several times to send my email addy to another member via PM. All he see's is the phrase "send me email" in place of my addy.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

break up the email address with spaces. That works e.g.

name (space) @ (space) yahoo.com

I had the same problem too (I used the spaces to fix that), but really why does it do that? Is there any reason we can't share our email in a PM?

I am a moderator on a large legal forum....

I discussed this with one of the lawyers there. He revealed that if they decide, forum administrators can read all PM's that go thru their site and can block members from posting their email addresses there....He said that it is sometimes done to prevent the members from taking the discussion beyond the boundry and control of the forum owners. He explained that a forum is private property and all members must accept the terms when they sign up, so it is legal.

What does this mean to you? It means that you need to be careful when using PM on any forum. Private Messaging inside a forum is not really private like your email.

LOL!..... Now everyone here is gonna go back and read everything you ever PM'd to make sure you haven't embarrassed yourself.......Just like I did recently.

Ok, now that you are aware of this, does it change your perspective of KaraokeScene?

I hope not. This board has evolved into a very special place where lots of good folks have made great friends and done lots to promote karaoke.

If you are concerned that the administration of any forum is violating your privacy and trust, then I suggest you contact them personally and make your concerns and desires known.

I'm sure the owners here have a reason for blocking our email addys in PM. Perhaps they will disable this feature if you ask politely.

If not, it's their forum and they pay the bandwith costs and suffer the liability of what we do here....So it's their rightful choice to run things like they decide.

Wow! Great explanation, but I didn't know some of that!

I can read your PMs hmmm... Where do I go to do that? Just Kidding!

No member of the Karaoke Scene Staff reads any other members' PMs or emails that are sent through the system. We only read the posts that are made in the forums.

One of the reasons that we have blocked the email is the same as we have blocked posting URLs (web addresses) Some Members were posting these into the forums. We are trying to avoid making these forums an advertising section. Also, in the past we had some who posted other members emails. (Now that's not very nice.)

We discovered later that when the emails and URLs were blocked from posting in the forums - it also blocked your PMs. Sorry.

Another reason that we block emails from posting or being seen is what are known as SPAMBOTS*. These are computer programs that scan the internet looking for email addresses, then extract these from web pages, which are then used as targets for spam. (see below for more details)

You may also notice that for your privacy we do not disclose your email address. The email link button when clicked upon opens a window in which the member can send an email through our system. This way the email address is not revealed.

Phill

What is a spambot?
A Spambot is a piece of software, a program that someone has written.

A spambot starts out on a web page. It scans the page for two things: hyperlinks and email addresses. It stores the email addresses to use as targets for spam, and follows each hyperlink to a new page, starting the process all over. Most spambots are a part of a larger program, allowing them to send out the spam to email addresses as it find them. Others merely store the email addresses for later use.

A spambot should not be confused with regular robots, also known as spiders or web-crawlers.

Thanks admin!

And thanks to the others here who provided the work-around.

Yes, we can offer each other our email addys via PM if we break it up with spaces. It fools the block and also the spybots admin here is trying to protect us from.

I managed to finally do that with our famous "ok what now" singer from Singers Showcase. I got my email addy thru to him by breaking it up with spaces. Now he can send me my very own personal cut of Rainy Night In Georgia and we can set up a visit where he will gorge on steak, beer and music.

I also met a very talented gal here, A New Day, who lives right here in town, and now we too can visit and exploit karaoke till she pukes.

Thanks KaraokeScene!
