Record your music first to separate tracks then add your vocal on a new track. Then you can mix later.
Or if you need to have it in a one take type session you can always track the music panned to one channel & the vocals panned to the other, this will give a mono track musically, but your vocals will be separate where you can blend them later to the music.

Record the vocal only.
Import the backing into Audacity.
sync the 2 tracks
mix to taste

Karaoke Instrumental - I play with Winamp with the CDG Plug in.

Recording - I record my singing with Super MP3 Recorder Professional (Dry no effects)

Then bring my recording into Adobe Audition for Post Processing, 1. Clean start and end of the track. 2. Run a 2.5 dB Hiss Filter, 3. Add Reverb (Never Echo). Using Nice Presence Filter. 4. Last apply VST Filter, Classic, Compressor "Vocal".
