Has anyone tried to get an LED sign or something to display the name of the next singer? My venue is large and a TV with a singer list is totally impractical on busy nights; it would have to be on one of the big 40"+ TVs to be legible from the back part of the room. Also, I don't really want to list more than 1 upcoming singer, because I don't want customers to realize there are 30 people ahead of them and not sign up.

If I could have an LED sign that interfaced with a karaoke program, that would be really great. I would be willing to change from RoxBox to another program to make this work. I could also type it into a dialog box or something. I could really use this to reduce the time between singers a little bit on my busy nights.

I would like to have something that works with USB since no one has serial ports anymore.

My experience with LED signs was when working at Century Theatres. They used a company called 'Data Display' to provide their signs. The were controlled from their own separate box linked by serial cable to the PC, also not cheap (at least from a karaoke perspective!)

I suspect that most signs will still be serial rather than USB controlled as the cable distance can be far greater.

All the cheap signs I see seem to be of the IR programmable with a few stored messages but no on the fly auto-updating.

Hey, I use Comphost. It works good at displaying next singer on the tv monitors and you have control over the number of singers and speed.

Karma also has a next singer display on moniter 2... when the current song playing ends it displays the next singer screen which shows the next 4 singers, and you can choose whether or not you want it to also display what songs they are doing. You have complete control over the colors and fonts. There is also a scrolling marquee at the bottom of the screen that stays on all the time if you want, great way to advertise drink specials or your company name... http://latshawsystems.com/ProductDetails_Karma.aspx

Hoster gives you the ability to show as many singers comming up as you want. I show the current singer and song, and the next singer and song displayed on a thin area on the bottom of the screen. They see their name, and are often ready to go much quicker than if not displayed.

Hoster does it all from the same GUI.

I guess nothing has a interface that would somehow allow me to tie it into an LED sign though. Upon doing some research, it seems like LED signs cost STUPID AMOUNTS, like $300 for ones that are about the same width as my $500 flat-screen TV. Why they are not cheaper is totally beyond me, but I guess I am reconsidering and maybe I will go with a second big TV or something. If I do that I will put my booking number and company name on most of the TV and the name of the next few singers.
