Yes, with all of the bad things going on in karaoke, Serenity Now Karaoke is back in business. Picked up a "Really Nice" gig at a local hotel lounge. Starting out every second Friday, then going to every Friday. The best part about it, is that it's a place that actually LIKES karaoke, and even PROMOTES karaoke. I've been hoping for this opportunity for about 6 months, and I finally got it. Just thought I'd share the GOOD NEWS.

Congrats to you! Good Job!
Promotes Karaoke? What are those odds? I didn't think that was possible! You are one of the lucky ones.

Excellent! Glad to hear things are on the upswing. (My Friday night place is BEGGING me to take on Saturdays, too - they knew going in that I reserved Sat. night for hubby's band gigs, but it's tempting.)

Congrats. How did you spear the job and what does the promotion consist of?

Ripman, the way we got the job, first, we are well known in our area as singers. So naturally when we weren't working, we frequented a friends show (at the hotel). Well, our friend has Thursday nights there, and Wednesday and Friday at another venue. The hotel also had Friday karaoke with a different karaoke host. They let the Friday kj go, due to various reasons. They asked our friend to do Friday nights, which he declined, due to prior commitments. Sooo, one night (on a Thursday), our friend couldn't make it for his show, (about 2 months ago), so he called the venue and asked if he could send us instead, as a FILL IN, Knowing who we were, they said sure. We put on our show, and had nothing but positive feed back. So, when my friend went back (next Thursday), and they told him how much they liked us, he naturally said, "Why don't you hire them for your Friday night karaoke"? Also their bartender (Friday nights) has been hounding them about us. So, it was pretty much a done deal from there, finally got the call. As far as promotion, they hang out a banner, they advertise in ALL of the local papers, with our names, and also their drink specials, and how much fun it will be. The manager has ALREADY told all of their Friday regulars that WE are going to be there, and that they are very happy to have karaoke on Fridays again. They also advertise on Facebook. We will also be advertising on Facebook, send out emails, and set up a website. Can't ask for much more than that!!!

Sounds ideal. Congratualations. Are you going to do Mardi Gras again?

LL, not working on Mardi Gras, but we might have a give away on our first night ( just for the heck of it). We have all kinds of beads, and stuff, so we might just hand some out to the singers. Free stuff ALWAYS goes over big, at any event. It just feels good to be back in business.

UPDATE!!! Our debut night was a OVERWHELMING success. Great singers, great crowd, and a WHOLE LOT of FUN. Could not have asked for a better night. If we had SCRIPTED what we wanted for our opening night, THIS would have been the script. As we always say, "give me 10 singers, with 3 non-singing friends", and I'll be happy. THAT'S what we got. A rotation of 10-12 singers, a nice non-singer crowd, EVERYONE enjoying a good night of KARAOKE. I was AMAZED by the compliments we received throughout the night, on how good the sound was. I guess the BEST compliment we received (again and again) was WE'LL BE BACK!!!

That's awesome, Serenity. I, Too, just started a new gig last night at a sports bar and the response was overwhelmingly positive. Not only was the owner and customers complimentary, even the bouncers shook my hand and thanked me for a great night. It was perfect.

Gotta love it when the kudos roll. My fri nite gig is still relatively new - I think maybe 6-7 weeks now? Everybody is thrilled, can't believe how entertaining 'real' karaoke can be. Nice to look forward with great anticipation to a gig when you know that people are loving it so much.
