I think you put WAY too much stock in Yelp. Everyone knows that the ballot box is stuffed on those type sites, much like the product review sites.

I wouldn't put much stock in a site like that either. Too easy to stack results by people such as this bar manager. I rarely trust sites like that and anyone with two brain cells to rub together wouldn't either.

Hey Toger,
With the way the cops are nowadays, most of your customers probably come from within a short drive of your bar. Who wants to sing karaoke without drinking and who wants a DUI?
Your word of mouth with the people who count will probably do more than enough to offset Yelp.

As I posted in your thread 3 months ago...
I don't put much stock in those reviews either. A large percentage of them are "Plants" anyway. I never heard of yelp.com until reading this thread. I took a look at listing in NYC... Gotta luv those people that say it's the BEST Karaoke they've ever been to, while adding that it cost them $1 or $2 per each song. I feel like screaming at those people... asking them if they ever even looked for a place in the city to sing at.... there's so much Karaoke in NY... AND IT'S FREE (no charge per song). As far as Karaoke Clubs go (those are the type that are private booths (at an hourly rate)).... That's a totally different animal.
And even now, knowing about YELP, I still don't look at it. Once again, I will say this....
A website (such as Yelp) is only as good as the people who know to search for it. And, on that note, how do you find this site without typing the name "YELP" in your search field???? I have done may searches for Karaoke over the years, and NOT ONCE was I ever directed to this site as a result.
Toqer... you're getting yourself all bent out of shape over some meaningless site.

Face it we all self promote, and say that our show is better than the competition.
There are good ways to do it and slezy ways to do it.
This probably falls into the slezy catagory.
Dont wory about it.
Seriously how many people ever read the comment, (excepting when you reposted it here) and how many people believed it and based their nights plans about it.
I doubt it would even be 1-2 people ever.

Yelp seems like the harmony central of business advertising.

Why not post the complete info so we all can add our 2cents to her site and yours?
Yelping is becoming a contact sport!

The old adage to the performer is "Don't read the reviews"
If your crowd is happy, and the owner is happy, that should be enough input.

I read his reviews and they are all good. At most I could find a few complaints about the atmosphere of the bar or the pricing and some accusations of overcharging but no complaints about the karaoke show. Am I missing something or was the offending review modified or removed?
