I thought it was clear that I was saying not to use studio monitors for a live sound PA?
I guess it wasn't.

That goes for a sub designed for studio monitors too. They can't put out the SPLs that real PA speakers do.

So far, of all the bars, restaurants or any kind of venue I've EVER been to, I've never seen anyone using studio monitors or a studio monitor sub for a live sound PA. I have seen speakers like mine used in several places. You know why? They're designed to be used in a live sound PA. They're Pro Audio gear made to last decades with zero problems if properly used.

As far as the little EV subs go, I'm not saying they are the best subs ever. What I DID say was that they're small, light and powerful considering their price. If you know of a better, less expensive, more powerful, small Pro Audio sub I'd like to hear about it. I'd love to try it out, if it's better I'll gladly buy it.

wow, when some people know something NOBODY else can be right but them, huh? anyway I'm looking for a sub shaped like the DB or the KX if possible, so I would probably go with one of those. But the fact that the D-lite 1000 system has everything built in and ready to go is nice...no buying amps/crossovers or satelite speakers..., plus it is probably kick (@$%&#!). have to mull it around. thanks everyone. I appreciate all the input. this board is such a killer resource.

too bad I can't just go to one place and listen to most of the stuff mentioned here to compare. alot of it is hard to find, especially in one place.

We have the York 700s and they are fabulous.

They are okay, and honestly, the LS720P is much better than most subs mentioned on this thread; but I have met several people who love those Yorkville subs (mostly because a local music store really pushes them on people for rentals) and thought they were so great, just because they'd never really heard PA subs that actually were good for their application.

There is a large difference between subs that are good for typical bar-band kick drum reinforcement, and subs that cover the whole range of a bass guitar. Coincidentally, a sub that works well for everything a bass guitar can put out is also a great sub for modern "dance music" that DJs play at bars and clubs.

-3dB or better to 40Hz is a good figure for this type of use. The LS720P basically does that (although I do not think it sounds particularly good.) There is content below 40Hz but not very much; however a really good sub that can reproduce it will sound very impressive compared to one that can't.

If you don't believe me, I really suggest you take your iPod, load up some of the music you play at your gigs, go to a store that sells the JBL SRX subs, and ask for a demonstration.

So I guess my recommendation is not bad, it goes down to 38hz at -3db
And I can tell you it does go low but not boomy :!:

That's right, I'm still alive, just been very busy practicing my trade. RLC and Topher are right on the money when they mentioned the DB Tech Sub 12. Very efficient, light weight and produce an amazing amount of punch in a compact size. In case you didn't know DB Tech is a division of RCF, that's right, that Italian company that was known for building quality equipment long before that marketing company that starts with the letter "M" got there hands on them. Now that they are on there own again they are back to building very competitive and reliable gear, well worth your consideration. I've had hands on experience with them and think you would be hard pressed to find a better bang for the buck, size for size sub. In larger formats I'm a big Yorkville fan.
