It's all in the value one applies to anything.

IMHO There is no comparison between the two. The original 0-99 set on individual disk is a collector’s item for those who believe there is value in the set. Personally, if I were able to afford it, I would offer a premium for the set. There are selections on this set not available elsewhere........I prefer DK's arrangement over any other producers’. I was the value I assessed for what I wanted.
So with all that said it is still matter of value. And while you will find more than DK on the SCDGs, I believe you will not find the complete collection of the millennium set either. Therefore it is adequately priced.

And as such, the original 0-99 series could bring premium a price from someone who feels it is worth it (and can afford it). And there lies the rub; affordability.

Agreed on all points above, including my preference for DK over other brands for hosting karaoke. Not only because I like the tracks, but because they are the only mfr. that made discs with the thought of actually helping the amateur singer.

At one time I had the full set, but due to theft and incorrect backups, I can now only say that I have MOST of them...

I like them a lot, too, Joe. I actually prefer them to Sound Choice -- not because of the lead in (you can't hear it if you're singing on key, anyway), but because I think the music is very well done.

Sorry, Roger...I can't take payments. I think I might have a taker...

Hello Julie, it's been awhile since we all were on Jolt.
I thought this thread was about your DK set 1-99?
What I think alot of people forgot but some have touched on, was not so much what one had to pay for a set of DK's but more about the beginnings of karaoke CDG phenom.
I remember when we first started, heck it was so long time ago but I think it started with DK 1-63, and then we waited for each new set until the last one DK 99.
I even have a old Songbook they gave us, it not only had songs listed by song title and Artists but also gave the first line on the song too..I miss that part.
Now, back to your offer,
Bearing all this in mind, I feel DK were "dead on" with the majority of their songs!
This is why they are sought after.
DK being out of business causes these original sets to be one of the most wanted sets around.
Yes, we PAID a pretty penny for each set, coupled with that and the fact that these are "collectors" items as much as they are usefull in any day to operation of a karaoke business.
In fact no matter what people say, they are still "THE NORM" when it comes to any library.
This why you should garner at least 1500 for a used set, upwards to 3000 for new...
That being said, I am a bit swayed by the fact that I too have a full new set as well as a used set, but also many, many loose cdgs for sale.
These are all totally one hundred percent real and original.
I was buying defunct karaoke companies, which I sorting through what I wanted and sold what I didn't need.
BTW.
I threw away all fake or pirated copies, not because i was noble but rather business savy, get rid of these unprofessional companies out there...
I'm not the karaoke police, I'm just doing it right....no steroids here...lol

Julie i DO hope you get what you want for your DK disc collection.

However, talk about being "collectors items" is nothing more than peoples NOSTALGIA.

In 5 years time they won't be worth the silver used to print the discs. EXCEPT to a nostalgic person who wants to have them as a reminder of better/younger karaoke times.

Better collect the SC discs to match EVERY SC song in your book to cover yourself...FOR NOW....they'll be worthless in the near future too....

DK isn't gonna come after anyone as well as MOST manufacturers...too expensive according to a lot of kjs here.

Maybe i sholud go "fishing" on ebay and put up my 8 track collection and old LPS and see what nostalgic person bites! Otherwise, they're worthless...

Johnreynolds:

I think that there is something that you're missing here with your definition of "nostalgia."

Is it nostalgic to own a Ford Model "A"? Yep.
Is it nostalgic to own a Chevy Corvair? Yep.
Is it nostalgic to own a set of rare Postage Stamps? Yep.

Is it nostalgic to own anything that might be a few years old like postage stamps, coins, thimbles, spoons, etc? Sure it is. If I could crank out copies of these on a magic copy machine and sell them for peanuts, would the value of the originals go down?

But there IS a difference here: Almost every KJ has either some part or an entire set of DK discs. And, if they "won't be worth the silver used to print the discs" then why do so many KJ's still use them AND why are they STILL being sold?

Ford Model "A" or Corvair cars haven't been manufactured for decades, no one has put one in a copy machine and packaged one as a freebie with every tank of gas or an oil change.

It may be "nostalgic" to own an actual set of DK discs, but for almost all of us in the business, these tracks are still the most important "core set" that has ever been available. If it wasn't so useful, there'd be no money in even selling copies.

Are any of the other brands/sets treated with such reverance? Are there buyers clamoring to buy full sets of Sweet Georgia Brown? Nutech? Sound Images, or even Backstage? Nope. Why not? These brands (to me) are worthless but melody flute or not, DK is still the most useful and consistent set that was produced.

Which is why 8125 from SC still goes for $200-400 on ebay anytime it appears. Even though there are now other manus that put out most if not all of those songs & decent versions, that disc is still a very sought after disc for those who really want it.

When it comes to nostalgia, you can print out as many COPIES of the ORIGINAL as you want, that's all they'll EVER be is COPIES. That will in NO WAY decrease the value of an ORIGINAL. If anything, it will INCREASE the value of the ORIGINAL, because it shows that everybody wants one. You can make ALL the copies you want of a SHELBY MUSTANG, but it won't EVER be worth what an ORIGINAL will sell for.

I apologize, Birdofasong, for those who diverted from the subject of the thread. Now that you have found a buyer, and i wish it were me, let met digress.

Considering the accolades in various regards offered about the DK product line, when are those who criticize the DK line for it's usage of pan flute, or being recorded a key below the original, or because of the hokey pictures going to get it? And if they don't get it, why not hold onto those thoughts. Yes, we know you are out their with your criticisms.

I don't much mind...like I said before...everyone has an opinion. I love these discs, though. I choose them time after time above Sound Choice. I think the orchestrations are great, and if you're singing even remotely in key, you don't hear the pan flute. The lead in is good, though for people who can't seem to find where they need to be.

There are a ton of KJs that use these as their core set, and I think it goes beyond being comfortable. They are definitely tried and true.

That was the Millenium Series. Definitely not the same as the original DK 1-99, and easier to find, as well.

I'm not worried about selling it. It may take a while -- people have less expendable income, but the set is definitely worth what I have listed it for, at the very least, and it will sell.
