I agree with the others, a much better player. Looks like I've got a few days of catching up to do.

Thanks for the fix.

The only way around this is to open a new tab.

The one thing that would make it perfect is if the new player could record the number of views as it did before. "L" subbers would probably especially appreciate that.

Yes Jian I realized opening another browser would do the trick... so it's a lil' inconvenient, I could live with that :)

Debbie I personally don't mind not seeing my amount of listens, saves me from wondering who I get 20-30 X-tra listens from with no comments  As far as the 'L' only goes, I don't know why those folks would care anyway, seems doing a listen only shows that they're not there to participate anyway.

I never change pages before listening to the whole song and then leaving my comment. (?... why would you do that... ?) (unless of course I'm not leaving a comment, which is when I don't usually listen to the whole song anyhow)... so that's not an issue with me.

At least it's up and working again, I had tried to listen to quite a few that wouldn't play... that was a bummer.

Why would I do that you ask?... well, I'm a multi-tasker, I have the innate ability to listen to music intently while doing other things, plus I'm such a busy woman, it helps me to get things done... ya know what I mean? :)

First off, the thing I like best about the flash player is that it has a "time counter" on it. I like to make comments such as "that note you delivered at 1:56 was incredible" or "what kind of effects did you use on the part that starts at 2:03," etc. Plus, it loads faster & the song plays right away (I was having problems with "loading times" before).

But, like Andrea mentioned, I don't like having to open a new browser window. I like to "multi-task" too, and I keep forgetting that switching pages is going to cut the song off before it ends. I've been going back to listen again, but it makes me wonder how many songs will never be heard in their entirety now.

I like seeing how many "listens" my songs are getting. I give my profile link out to a lot of people, not just SS members... so there's always a big difference between the number of comments and the number of listens. If I notice a song is getting hardly any listens, I'll take the song down in favor of something that may end up being more popular. There's no way to "track" that now. I hope it can be fixed, because I think it's a worthwhile asset.

True. I know on other music sites, people are more specific like that, and to the one submitting and asking for real critique, it's a big help to have it pinpointed.

No, I guess I don't;) I don't leave a person's page until I've listened to their song and commented. I don't leave a comment until the song is finished, or at least until I'm into the song quite a ways... can't figure out what I'm gonna say until I've heard a good portion of the song, yanno? The only exception is when I'm answering my own comments... as soon as I've replied to a person, that persons page is up and I'm listening back to them. Or when I'm there... and here in the forums ... at the same time. But, I just open a new window. Different strokes for different folks, eh?

Mark, I know most everyone watches their listen count. I don't know how it is now, but in days gone by there were a few people (ok, Lol, so maybe more than a few...) who'd fly down the page passing out comments without listening to the songs. I recall it causing quite a stir a few times. Ah, the good ol' days of SS. I miss them. Maybe Phil can change it to where it will count listens again? I have no clue, I'm only computer literate enough to get on here and gab.

I would just like to add my two bob's worth to the subject.

I also like the new player not opening in a seperate page. I can see the disadvantages too although they can be worked round. Overall I think it's an improvement.

It's a shame that the amount of listens are no longer recorded and made avaliable to us because ( in my opinion ) they are a far more accurate reflection of how well you are doing and if you are heading in the right direction than the amount of comments you receive because if you tell everybody else on the front page that they are fantastic you will always receive a lot of flattering comments in return, regardless of the quality of your performance.

What that means, in practice, is that, some of the less able singers receive a lot more praise than some of the more talented singers. But that is human nature and common to all singing websites.

The amount of comments can be taken with a pinch of salt but knowing how many listens you got was the real deal.

Cheers

Roy

"Far more accurate refelection of how well you are doing and if you are heading in the right direction"... are you serious???... that's how you grade your music from the amount of listens and/or comments you get or don't get?... wow that's pretty sad but to each his own... & in regards to the amount of comments folks get On their songs, why should that be a concern of yours?... ya got be in it to win it & that applies to everything in life!

Some of the less able singers (as you call it) get comments cause we're genuinely nice people & we're here to have fun & we all have the ability to sing a song... that is what karaoke is all bout!

Sounds to me from your reaction to this thread that you're a lil' jealous of the folks that do kick a** On comment amounts... maybe you should do 'just for fun' songs & let's see what the folks think of your voice.

You just sound like an extremely bitter person to me the way you rant & rave bout comment totals & who gets the comments... I don't understand why that concerns you so much & why you had to mention the 'less able singers' here... who do you think you are? The proof is in the pudding Mr so put your money where your mouth is & open Up your song for comments... I'll be Happy to evaluate your performance & see if you're headed in the right direction or not :)

Now lets get this right

YOU are accusing ME of ranting and raving ?

At least you are sending me to bed with a big smile on my face.

For that I thank you.

I really don't think you do sleep well at night... if anyone has to come out here in public & make derogatory remarks bout the singers On SS and/or the comments & listens they get, then somethings gotta be eating at you & it's always On your mind... & this isn't the 1st time I've heard your ranting & raving bout this subject. I saw you On another site crying bout the same thing. Hey if ya can't beat em', join em'! Come On, open your door for comments & stop hiding behing the 'L'... I really would like to tell you in what direction you're headed... & if I should say so myself, I'm extremely qualified :)

I have never understood why people find it necessary to ridicule folks who invest time in others, and as a result of that interaction, enjoy the rewards of friendship and the attention when they sub. What is so objectionable about supporting a fellow singer’s efforts or to reciprocate another person’s kindness?

As far as I am aware, this site doesn’t claim to be a pro music site, there is also no prerequisite that membership is open only to those who meet a certain standard as far as talent goes. We sign up and sing as best as we can, we post because we want others to listen to our efforts. We understand that others sub because they also might want to be heard. So, if you expect others to spend their valuable time listening to you when you sub J, C or L, why not offer them the same courtesy? There is no doubt that this should not be stressful like taking on a second job (LOL)…and that Karaoke singing is not one of life’s priorities. However, if I have subbed more songs than comments, I’d be happy to spend whatever time I can rather than being obsessive about ridiculing those who get comments because they spend time encouraging and interacting with other members here.

I always respect the fact that intelligent minds can differ. We have a right to do what works best for us – which includes how we spend our time here. However, if anyone means to ridicule a person who invests time in others, I seriously think that you are way out of line. What if there were no active participants here? What if all “good singers” thought that it would be below their dignity to comment on someone who is a “less able singer”?
