Hey, we're country here. For me, a few are Some Girls Do (Sawyer Brown), Where the Stars and the Stripes (Aaron Tippin), Tall Tall Trees (Alan Jackson). For mellower crowds, Heard It In A Love Song (Marshall Tucker) and One Night At A Time (George Strait).

All sleepers at our show.

In my area for semi-newer stuff songs like

Bad Romance- lady ga ga
- Tok- keisha
Cowboy Cassanova- carrie underwood
Single Ladies- beyonce
Dani California- red hot chili peppers
Sex on Fire- kings of leon
Low and In The Ayer- flo rida
Say Hey ( i love you)- michael franti & Spearhead

These would be more of an average night - minus Low & In & Say Hey, and nobody has even attempted Single Ladies yet - been in the books for almost 4 months now.

How 'bout "Single Ladies" (Put A Ring On It) by Beyonce. Most of the ladies immediately respond. Definately a pleaser at my shows.

Never been done yet after 4 months. I actually like this one in a morbid curiosity type of way.

Crowd pleasers really depends on the crowd on that particular night, but here are a few tried and true favs:

1. Pour Some Sugar On Me
2. Baby Got Back
3. Poker Face
4. Sweet Home Alabama
5. Mony Mony (either the Shondells original version or the Billy Idol remake)
6. Old Time Rock 'N' Roll
7. Mustang Sally
8. I Kissed A Girl
9. Sweet Child O' Mine
10. Centerfold

There are more, just listed the top 10 that came to my head.

I will hear these more than some to most of the other listed in this thread minus Centerfold & Mony Mony.

I don't believe the question was in regard to how often any particular song is sung, but rather, the reaction of the crowd WHEN IT IS DONE.

Yep and I was responding to the ones that I know get a response either way that I know of. All the others I couldn't comment, but it is a surprising list as many of those I wouldn't consider crowd pleasers.

Well, I don't have Sympathy For The Devil, but it is played locally and gets better than a ho-hum reaction. It might be a reflection, as you say, that not too many libraries have the song?

As to crowd pleasers, clearly the appeal of any song is a matter of geographic/demographic considertions.

What maybe a crowd pleaser in a country bar could understandably go unnoticed in a rock bar. What may get heads turning in an urban bar would fall flat in a country bar. And so on. Shouldn't be a surprise

And finally there is the mix of patrons. Most karaoke places I frequent do not have a "homogenous" audience (all country or all rock or all urban). So, it depends

And while, for example, I have heard KJ's refer to "Sweet Caroline" as a sing-a-long, because some people chime in with "ho-ho-ho", most every time "Family Tradition" is sung around these parts there is even a more enthusiastic audience response!

I think I would have to say that for my shows if a song goes over well it has a lot more to do with it being performed and sung well than the specific song.

While most of my crowd is into indie rock, Bowie and 80s music. An occasional song from something else from metal to country and all other directions can bring the house down if done well. I can recall plenty of occasions where the most memorable and most applauded song of the night was unexpected in style or music genre.

I have seen many times a song bring the house down when performed well, and then be a ho-hum sleeper when done by someone else on a different night, but with a similar crowd.

If anything trying to do a song that someone else has done exceptionally well in the last few shows tends to be a ho-hum affair in crowd reaction if not done better. Most of the people at my shows are less appreciateve of a good song performed so-so or worse, than an obscure or less successful song performed well.

Other crowds may have different tastes, but this is a generality for my shows.

Someone sang Drunken Lullabies - Flogging Molly last night on a busier than normal Monday and the entire crowd was clapping to the beat and pounding on the tables to the beat - even had a handful on the dance floor doing mock riverdance type moves. But then almost everything done last night was getting everyone involved, that one just stood out more than the others.

A lot of these get done at my shows, some I don't know at all. I'll have to check into all the suggestions. Mony Mony is actually an old staple of mine, lol. I sound just like Billy Idol!
