Hey everyone,
Great Forum !!
I would like to add some fun to the numerous parties I have (Indoor and out) by getting a karaoke setup.
Next week someone is giving me a JBL Eon 15 MusicMix 10 (10 Channel Stereo Mixer) and two JBL Eon Power 15 (Powered Speakers) for FREE !!!
The JBL speakers have the following info on the back (800 Watts Max)
I already have a Laptop that has dual video and about 15,000 songs I was able to purchase through E-bay over the last few months.
So what will I need besides what I listed about?
I was thinking of replacing the mixer with something newer with more effects........
I probably have somewhere around $800 to get started......Let me know what you think and thanks in advance for all the help.

Someone was point me in the direction of a Behringer PMP2000 -POWERED MIXER 10 Channel Audio Mixer but not sure how well that would work with the JBL EON15 powered speakers.

Bobby, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I thought you should know you probably won't get much help from too many people in here. Nothing personal, but you said the wrong words by saying you bought a hard drive from Ebay. Nobody in here wants to help someone with stuff that is less than "legit" or "legal". As far as the sound equipment goes, like Lonman said, search for some input from past posts, that will be your best bet.
Good luck
Scott

Wait wait wait.............I have my own laptop and I was able to buy karaoke disks (ORIGINALS) on ebay over the last few months. I did not BUY A HARD DRIVE WITH MUSIC ON IT. Thats not how I do things, plus if this stuff works out for me I want to try and do some small gigs in the future in local bars so I need all my stuff to be legit.

I have my own laptop and and in the last couple of months I've been purchasing original Karaoke CD's to use with my upcoming system.
Sorry for the confusion but I for one do not get involved in that type of thing.
Thank you

Sorry for me taking it that way as well, it just wasn't composed clearly is all. Since you cleared that up, you just might get some good suggestions by some of the pro's in here. As far as geting a new mixer, you will get varied opinions on one, but there are a couple that would work nicely for you. I suggest either the Behringer Xenyx 1832FX Pro, or either the Mackie ProFX8 or ProFX12 or lastly the Yamaha MG124CX. All are budget minded mixers with good features. I suggest you get whatever fits your needs best. Personally I use the Behringer, but looking to upgrade to the Yamaha soon. Since you will have powered speakers, I suggest adding a subwoofer, even for backyard parties. You would need to add an amp with it as well, unless you get a powered sub. But I believe you can get what you need with your $800 dollar budget nicely.
Again, sorry for me jumping to conclusions. Good luck in your endeavor!
Scott
Thank you

Well obviously you'll need some microphones. The cheapest way to get a good quality mic would be to pick up one or two Shure SM58's for about $100 a piece. Good, durable microphone, relatively cheap and sounds great. It is the single most popular microphone in the world for a reason. With your budget, I doubt you'll be able to get yourself into a subwoofer, however since the EON's are loaded with 15's already and do have a fairly low reach in frequency response, I think in the short term you can get away without a sub. Look at the Yamaha MG series consoles as mentioned before. You can pickup a brand new MG12/4CX for under $300 and that'd be a great sounding board (much better than a Mackie or a Behringer). It has your effects and a simple compression function on the Mic channels that will serve you well.
With the budget you have left, I'd suggest looking at an external audio interface for your laptop (rather than using the onboard sound card). The Lexicon Alpha runs about $100 and would be a great option. Then use the remaining money in your budget to get yourself good cables to connect it all.
Hope that helps.

Mixer: Yamaha MG124CX.
I have two of these, one as a back up, bought it used for about $200. Can't complain, user friendly, tons of effects and more channels than I can use for what I do now.
