Hiya, I have decided to use Martin Robocolor pro 400's instead of par cans.
They are as bright as a 1k par 64 and have 32 colors.
The problem is they use two DMX channels for color changing.
I want to be able to change easily to the colour I want without having to scroll through them.
Does anyone know how to do this.

Depends on your controller, but the most common way is to setup scenes on your controller. With DMX, the key is always in the pre-show configuration. Getting it setup and stored ahead of time will save you many headaches during the show.

If your controller doesn't support scenes, then you're kinda stuck. About the best you can do is mark the sliders on your controller at the points where the colors are that you use most and just be quick about moving to them. Believe it or not, I've run into a few gigs with provided lighting where this is what they did for us on the color changers.

I suggest Freestyler it works great.

I would have suggested LED Pars. They never burn out and have over 2,000,000 colors.

The software DMX control is very cool, however, the last time I looked (which admittedly was about 6 months ago) I couldn't find a DMX interface for the computer for under $300. For that kind of money you can get a really nice hardware DMX controller that supports scenes and such.

I have Freestyler & have just bought a USB DMX adapter for £40 new on ebay.
Really looking forward to playing with that.
Think there may be a way of assigning notes off a midi keyboard to DMX functions.
So much I don't know.
I have an LED panel. I dont think it can touch a discharge bulb but I do like it.

Yes. I want them on stands. I have 3 Martin 518's to go on the floor.
Would rather it was the other way round.
They make the 518's look like toys.

Leopard, 76 Kg would be a lot in shipping.
I may have something smaller you fancy.
Come to think of it everything I have is smaller than these monsters.
One on top of the other is 9" taller than I am.
I am 5'9"

I was thinking maybe ship them by freighter. And then we re-wire America to have the correct current. You know I'm just joking. They actually look very intimidating, like they could be used to sweep prison yards or something. You must have the most talked about light show in all of England.

Yes my controller does scenes.

I think it is a kickback from the 80's.
I wired a music keyboard into a strand dimmer pack (4 x 6) and used to play 24 par 64 lights on the keyboard.
I got used to it and I loved it.
I want to do the same again with intelligent ? lighting.
Why is it harder to do this ?

Jerry, I am running four Elation OPTI RGB led cans and one Martin Wizard Extreme using ShowMagic software and an Enttec DMX USB Pro interface. It is easy to set up scenes using this software as you can just set the controls to the colours/patterns you want and record them.

You can download a fully functional free version of ShowMagic (the SL24 version) at:

www.showmagic.com

Not sure if that will provide enough channels for your use and I'm not sure if it will be compatible with your interface.

Got a link for that? The cheapest one I see on their site is $299.
