Hi Wannabe and the Rest!!! I understand what you are saying because there are alot of professional people that only rely on written songs that they choose to perform. Example is Linda Ronstadt. I don't think she has ever had a popular song that was not written by someone else. (I just love her talent!!) That's what alot of professional people do. They choose to sing what they like and do well at and/or what their producers decide. So we at SingersShowcase do songs that appeal to us. There is nothing wrong with that. :D I say. sing what you want to, original or not and have fun doing it, period!! I appreciate original/professional/ karaoke/amatuer, etc. Any song/singer that interests me! Doesn't matter. It's all about having fun listening, learning and just plain enjoying the chance to listen to others. Karaoke, professional or whatever turns you on!!!!!!! At least for me and I'm sure, for others !!!! :D

Dona,
I write my own material... some here have said they have liked it.. I will not post much of it here for reasons that it ruins it's marketability to the industry to be out before it has been marketed to distrubution, and I personally have no vested interest in making another shot again at the Major industry. So personally my opinion does differ from Kcultist's, And that is also the very same advice from the consultants at TAXI.com, an independant A&R organization that serves the Songwriters, major and independant labels alike.

Although it would be a very good idea for those who have no wishes to persue a career in professional music to copyright thier original music and then post thier subs as they would with any other sub on this site, to protect thier interests.

Wow Brian,

Is there anything you don't do? I don't know where you find the time. I would really love to hear some of your original stuff. It's too bad about the marketability problems. I'm sure we'd all appreciate hearing something original from you.

For those of us who can't write our own stuff it's good to know there are some tanented people who write songs......as a matter of fact a lot of songwriters dont sing. So does that mean theyre not serious about music?

Wannabe,
About your question, some songwriters maybe better musicians or lyracists, than vocalists, and work in tandem with others to make the songs come to life. Personally, I will hire a "Demo Vocalist" on most of my things, and I send it out to the industry. Someone who specifically just sings songs for songwriters.

I have subed 3 originals already that I have sung myself, and therefore have already pretty much therefore have ruined thier marketability. I now use them as "Showcase" songs only I may re-sub some day. Only one of those 3 has ever been released.

I do a whole lot more than just engineer .. I try not to tell people about it very often.. :P

That's exactly the point I was trying to make. Many of us are simply vocalists and some are very good at it. Just check out the singers showcase and you will learn that very quickly. It is possible to be a "professional" vocalist. What I was referring to is the statement that people who can sing and not write music or even play an instrument are not allowed to be "serious" about music. Karaoke may be about fun, but it also opens the door for people who are talented vocalists (or have the potential to be) the opportunity to expand thier abilities and explore their vocal range in front of a live audience. It also gives people who just love to sing the opportunity to just get up and sing... be it good or bad.

There will always be people who think that karaoke has no place in the music industry, but karaoke has found it's way into the mainstream and I for one am glad it has.

Boy, this thread really strayed from the subject matter of the original post. LOL. I just wanted to say that after observing things during my first week here on the SingersShowcase.Com, I wholeheartedly agree with every word AllStar said in his original post in this thread. He is, in my opinion, 100% on target with his comments. I know exactly what he's saying and I believe he's absolutely correct! I like you AllStar! You have the guts to step up to the plate and tell it like it is, regardless of popular opinion! I, for one, respect that a great deal!

You are not making yourself very popular by making a statement like this! You have to know that I, according some people do not fall in the class to make statements like that.

There's only 2 ways you go in this forum
Your own way or BeachHeadBum's way. If you go your way, you'll always be wrong, if you blow smoke up BHB, you'll be a well loved character (at least by him)

You know that I just enjoy my karaoke, and dare say, in a comptetitive way sometimes.

Now, Now!

You forgot about blowin' smoke up my... :)
j/k

Remember, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. We all see things our own way and because we are all different, not everyone will agree with you. Of course, we all believe my opinion - I mean - our opinion is the right one, thus we can get carried away, at times...

Let's all just try to remember that, please.

thx
Phill

Phil, I'm sorry but you don't need anyone blowing smoke up your ...... for the simple reason that each and every person on this forum knows your value, so do you!

And I will stick to my statement

 It's extremely sad to say, but I am seriously reconsidering my participation on this forum due to the attitude of certain individuals.... Whatever you do, whatever you have, there's always this on person that has it more, bigger or better. It's not very good for the moral getting slapped everytime you want to share something with fellow members, just to get the feedback that you're not on par with the "big boys"

LOL! Sorry guys, I didn't mean to stir things up again. I'm just the new kid on the block and I've been going through the old threads and reviewing all the photo galleries etc., trying to bring myself up to speed, so to say.

Allstar, As far as not joining the popular group, I don't try ta hang with the "in crowd" so that I can be one of the "cool" kids. LOL! at 48, I'm much to old for that!

Just happy that I found you guys. I think that this is a great little community of, for the most part, like minded individuals. At the very least, you all share a common interest. There's unity in that alone.

The singers forum kind of reminds me of the old Charlie Daniels tune where he says, we may have done some fightin amongst ourselves but you outsiders had best leave us alone. LOL...

Steven,
You are just fine.. you are part of a group... and I have learned some things from your input.. Ya know sometimes it just takes sometime to figure this place out.. Somemore than others to figure out where they belong. and to pick which battles to fight, and not to fight.

I'm still learning that one. But I think it's a lesson worth learning.

BHB and I will never sit next to the fire. So, don't feel bad about anything. Just keep it up. Keep a level head and don't let anything get to you.

 My daily word of wisdom................

Conventional literature ties insecurity to low self esteem. Some psychologists describe it as a paranoid distrust of others. Its been proven that insecurity diminishes significantly by the time we are 35. It seems that as we age, we become less dependent to prove who we are and more comfortable with ourselves and meeting our own needs. Yup, insecurity has caused people make absolute fools of themselves.

Allstar,

Don't let the actions of ONE person make any decisions for you.

In life, it's hard for everyone to get along. I worked with someone that had to have the better stories, had to have more experience, had to know more than you did...

Key word: WORKED.

he's gone now.

Now, whether you believe Brian (BHB) or not with his claims isn't the issue. He's been spoken too in the past by others, as have I and many others on the site. The typed, written word is very hard to misconstrue.

Can I cite an example on something in my own history with the karaoke forums??

Lonman's a real prince... he's cool, calm, collected, and knows his STUFF! And even he's gotten irked at the behavior of some of the people on this site (usually when they call him on something in a bad way). If I hadn't met the man myself, I'd never have believed half of what he's written...

But he's the real deal! TRUST me on that! And I go to him for ALL speaker, microphone, and hardware advice I possibly can. I find in him a virtual plethora of information, and he's very happy to help.

Now, who knows?? Brian sure seems to know his stuff too. But I take from him a voice of experience. Now, I have experience on some matters too, and sometimes we differ on that path... but I always consider what he has to say. Sometimes I use it, sometimes I throw it to the wayside... depends on what it's all about.

Take the best, and discard the rest. Trust your heart and soul on this matter. I think he's only trying to help... but that's my opinion.

Matt

Matt, I never said I was right 100% of the time.. but all I can say is ya do what ya have to do.. If what you do works for you do it. what works for allstar.... fine let him do it...

And what works for me and what I do and Brings me to my levels of success, Great.. I'm doing it already. Don't complain about it then.

Everybody has a different method of getting to the finish line.

Will it be the Caddy or the Toyota? That is up to the Driver..

I'm the driver of my own train.. Don't complain if ya missed yours. And this one ain't gonna de-rail either.

Yeah but overconfident drivers, regardless of what they're driving will sooner or later derail or go off the road.

First of all, let's leave Lonman out of this. We both agree that he is a very respected member and even though I have never met him, he comes across as a very knowledgable person, and I'm always prepared to learn and listen. You, Matt, fall in the same category as Lonman.

My problem is being kicked in the n### everytime I say something. My believe is that this is a fun forum for singers, this is not a forum for advertising how big, good or strong you are.

Nobody here sings with $800.00 mics, but BHB has to tell the world he is. For most of us amatuer KJunkies, we can barely afford a $150 mic. For most of us our studio is a karaoke player, pc and dining room.

Quote:
Brian sure seems to know his stuff too.
I never said he doesn't know his stuff, the problem I have is that he is so full of himself, he probably kisses his mirror every morning. Can he PLEASE stop talking about himself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What I would like to see is Brian making himself believable. Let's start by this. So, he's a Sound Engineer right. Let's throw some credentials on the table. Let's see the engineering degree. Give me some references that I can check up to prove he's not just a bloated jelly fish.

and Timberlea

What happens is that they are like drunk drivers. They think they're 10 feet tall and bulletproof.
You know what they say, the higher you climb, the harder you fall.
