Hello everyone am a newbie here but not to the karaoke biz. The owner of the bar I work at decided last year to go with the laptop and Hoster. I have had issues with Hoster so she switched to Sax-N-Dotty and now I am having bigger issues! No manual to answer guestions. Can anyone tell me how to get my CDG's to import? I read that they have to be put into MP3 or WinAmp but I am NOT computer savvy. Any help I would greatly appreciate. Thank you in advance!

Hoster imports it's music using their own format (KMA). There is only two programs that will convert them into a file that Show Presenter will work with. MTU has Songverter and PowerKaraoke's CDG Burner. Even if you get them converted there is the naming that needs to be done. I don't know much about the programs when it comes to converting files.

Opinions vary on hosting products. My opinion of S&Ds is "Flee for your life!"

So we possibly made a bad choice with Sax-N-Dotty? Any other suggestion of an inexpensive program to use that isn't as complicated?

If you're ripping your stuff to a hard drive, and downloading select tunes, Rox Box works very well for me. Not a cool interface or anything but it's worked very well, never crashes on my system, allows me to play music between singers, etc. The price ain't bad. Google it.

What is the problem with Hoster? Just out of curiosity, i've been using it for a few years with no issues.

I use Sax & Dotty's and it is very easy to use. Been using it for over 5 years now with never a problem.

First off your songs have to mp3+G format, zipped is even better. Basically a zipped MP3+G file is a regular zip file with a .mp3 file for the music, and a .cdg file for the lyrics. Also to make it easier to import songs into Sax& Dotty's name all your files the same way. I recommend DISC - ARTIST - SONG NAME because that is the "default" naming convention for Sax & Dotty's import function.

If you got any other questions just ask.

Ditto with Sax n dottie. Never had a problem....effective key change, and I especially like the "History"...so you can put what a singer has sung on previous visits in the queue. To be fair though,I think each KJ has his or her own favourite hosting program

Another + for Sax been using 4 years with out an itch,as Wiggly says history is ace make loading dead quick.
It dont play your music for filler but I prefer to run the seperate program ,eggs not all in one basket and all that ,use Traktor version 2 for the music.

I used to use Sax N Dotty's up til about a year ago. Actually I liked the program, it's just a bit more complicated to install is all, not bad tho. After it's installed, it's really a breeze to operate. I now use JustKaraoke by Tricerasoft, like a few others here. Easy to learn and use, breeze to install, and inexpensive to buy. Another humble opinion.

Sorrty to disagree about the key change. It's effective -- except when it isn't. Which is frequent. I have learned never to request a keychanged song from an S&D show, because half the time Pacemaker is borked and it doesn't take. And it doesn't matter if the host thinks it is working either -- they say it works right, but the song starts and nope, no key change.

Hi

Another vote for Just Karaoke - simple to use, plays filler music and works with Zipped MP3 + G files which saves disk space. Its also inexpensive.

I would sugest try as many programs as you can - most Karaoke software is available to try.

I use powerkaraoke CDG Burner to rip songs from CDG disks again this is a inexpensive program with great results.

Good luck.

In my experience, you get what you pay for. Resist the temptation to go for the bottom of the barrel. This is the ONE piece of equipment that you touch constantly, all night long, week after week and the core of your entire system. Get a quality program.

Personally, I love Compuhost.

JustKaraoke is deceptive in it's price in my opinion. It has most of the features other expensive ones have and does it well. It is by no means bottom of the barrel and is a high quality program and you don't need to upgrade your computer to run it.

Personally, the last thing I would want to fiddle with is my hosting application. I want to just click "Play" and have everything else done for me. Different strokes for different folks....

Exactly. Some people like a high performance sports car and enjoy the driving experience. To others, it's just a car to get you from A->B and a waste of money.

Being a non-techie, a friend of mine loaded all my cd's to Sax&Dottie (external harddrive). I have long since accumulated a lot of cd's during the 5 years since he retired from the Navy and I don't know how to get hold of him, nor do I know how to load it myself. Is there a "how to" site where I can go to learn how to load? I have the Power Karaoke Burner & Player I would appreciate it if somebody can help me how to do it from scratch starting from beginning to end. Thanks!

Here is a good tutorial: http://www.opentutorial.com/Rip_a_karaoke_cd

However some of the newer software today does not need a "CDG capable drive" as the article states.
Your software (Power CD+G Burner) will work with most cd drives today.

I applaud you for wanting to "learn how to" - many come here looking for the easy answer.

Remember to try and keep your naming format the same as what you already have, paying close attention to "space dash space" in the naming format.

Better ye,t here is a how to for your software: http://www.powerkaraoke.com/help/cdgbur ... ce/rip.htm

Thanks, RLC. Excellent site you recommended, lots of information. I'll start asap and follow the instructions to the tee. I knew there was a reason a friend gave me a Plextor harddrive. Thanks again.
