Maybe I'm weird -- scratch that I know I'm weird -- but...

There are songs that I tend to find offensive such as "Closer" but I find other songs with some of the very same language such as "Ode To My Car" hilarious and entertaining.

Anybody else feel the same way, or are all songs with the "F bomb" just something that is too offensive for public consumption?

I believe the difference is pretty much one is slapstick comedy and the other is just plain old foul. ... and in reality, at least this has been the case at my shows, the crowds that seem to enjoy the crude stuff think it's funny the first few times and then they pretty well ignore it. FXXK her Gently is one that gets a holler from newbies and the regulars just kind of stare into space and give the perfunctory clap at the end.

I thought "Ode To My Car" would have been funny even without the "word." I have nevr understood why just saying a word, or even the name of a city, gets wild cheers but there seems to be a lot of the population that is in to that sort of thing.

When I worked with 30 year olds at my day job, they used those words like they were nothing and they sort of lost their impact. So I don't get shocked but it seems sort of unintelligent to me somethimes. But I have been put off by content. I don't run and hide when the Pussycat Song is sung but it doesn't amuse me as it does some. I hate Nickelback's "Animals." Wish there wasn't that one line in "Before I Got High." But I don't like "Under My Thumb," either.

Guess I don't enjoy songs that degrade people. They offend me more than "words."

When I think "Hotel Lobby", I think Sinatra at the Sands. You may not have Sinatra, you may not be at the Sands, but you can try and duplicate the atmosphere and mood.

Seattle, I would love to have that type of show, and ACTUALLY our show is pretty classy. Average age is over 30, well behaved crowd. I'm VERY satisfied with it, and hope to keep it a LOOONG time.

At my bar we allow swear words in the singing if it is in the song. ANY other swearing costs 5 dollars per word payable to bar before any other drinking or singing may occur. People holding mics tend to think it gives them a freedom to be as profain as possible and that is unnessicary. I usually don't have issues with people singing the bad songs as most of them respect the bar and all the people in it ... If for some reason we get someone new that feels a need to sew his or her oats I just turn them down. You KJ's hold the power. Mostly on the mic volume slider.

I don't think I've said this before, but usually, when I walk into a new place (for me), and I feel the (possible) urge to want to sing something with language content in it, I will approach the KJ first and ask if something like xxxx will be acceptable with a crowd like this (especially if I can't get an overall "read" on the audience).

Now, how many of you KJs out there get someone who asks beforehand?

Cue, like you, I ask the KJ for approval.
