Hi,

I’m a new’ish KJ host; I’ve hosted maybe a dozen shows, mostly at house parties. I’m not new to coaxial, S-VHS, composite video, HDMI, etc., as I’ve set up home theater, etc. and I have a handle on sending out image through multiple sources at the same time.

In general, what TV hook ups are used at the majority of the venues you guys host at?

Coaxial - S-Video - Composite Video - ?

You are not going to find many TVs without RCA Composite inputs, and the cables and splitters are abundant and inexpensive.

99% S-Video for me. S-VHS you mentioned is something else completely.

I do have one venue that has a composite video drop (RCA) for their projector however.

Most of the places I play have Flat Panel LCD or Plasma TV's so I usually use VGA to connect to those. Otherwise in a few rare instances I still use RCA composite video. I haven't used co-ax in a long long time and I've never had to use S-Video.

So how long a VGA cord to you lay out, in general? S-Video is much cheaper and smaller... Unless I'm missing something?

I still use coax. Most tv's - even newer ones, have at least 1 coax input. It's much easier to be able to split to several tv's IMO. Typically I would just leave the cable run at the club (especially with multiple tv connections) so I wouldn't have to run it every setup & just pull it out if I leave the club for whatever reason.

That's what I do Lonman. The quality is fine, the cable is cheap and you can split to many different monitors with no poblems. I split the S-Video to two TV's and there was an incompatibilty issue with the newer 42" and my personal 15" monitor. Did the coax deal and no more issues. There's generally no issue with splitting the yellow out either....

I'm using all HDMI now all my bars have new HDTV's. I have most recently ripped all my music videos to vob and they look great full format. Karaoke doesn't matter as far as graphics but with coax you tend to get so much interferance.

Splitters are reasonable I just put one in each bar. That and all tvs have 2 HDMI or more so all i need to do is change the video on the tvs.

Plus all our new notebooks are HDMI. I think the vga converters look like crap.

I have a 50 Foot VGA cable that I use for the longer runs and a 16 footer that I use for shorter runs. I use this little guy from Radio Shack to split the signal into two VGA connections: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... =325278351

I use an LCD Computer Monitor for my singers so I like to keep everything VGA whenever possible. I prefer to keep everything in the same format if possible, it's just a personal preference.

You ever have any issues with mis matched monitors? I tried this once, using my monitor and a TV monitor with a PC in and the lines, wave and crap were crazy, had to switch to s-video.

The only issues I've run into come if I try to run the resolution at anything over 1080. Remember most HDTV's in bars are going to be 1080i or p capable so as long as I keep the monitor output at that resolution everything seems to work great. Karaoke graphics are so low res anyway, it's not like it really matters on that end what resolution I choose.
