Just because it wasn't released as a single - actually because the bands manager did not want it released as a single, he wanted the fans to buy the entire album for the song - which eventully was dubbed the single. As far as the album itself charting, it was #2 on US charts & stayed on the charts for weeks. It was on the UK charts debuting at number 1 & stayed there for 62 weeks.
So there is a big difference with someone that has a hit, and another song that the fans might love that never charted that may be good, and something like the aforementioned STH considered by many fans & critics alike to be one of (if not the) greatest rock song of all time. So being the manus like to look at charted hits first, they also look at stuff they believe have staying power as well.
However if they get enough requests for something, they might put that out as well, so put your requests in for the song to every manu you can.

I happen to own a 45 of "Stairway to Heaven"... The flip side is "Hey, Hey What Can I Do"

That was promo disc, not an actual release. Not many actually produced, hang on to that, may be worth something someday.

And the fidelity of it sucked. Cramming a nearly eight minute song onto a 45 meant some very tight grooves.

Bazza, the recording studio could make your song for you.

Since it's essentially just an acoustic guitar, I might not even have to go that far. I have a couple guitar player friends who could probably handle it.

I've just listened to the album version here:
http://popup.lala.com/popup/360569470939641440
I had to look it up since I've never heard the song before.
In this version I hear piano, harmonica, bass, drums and acoustic guitar. I'd pay half to get this song produced. That would leave $40 left for you to cover Bazza. What do you say?

Since it's not covered by every manu, they MUST have had to grit their teeth and/or had their arms twisted.
Boy, you want to try and make me pay for that rather poor choice of word.
Listening to the song at the link above, I had never heard it. Not my cup of tea, but I can see the appeal. Good luck getting a new version. If you can find a harp player that good, get him to lay down a new harp solo on SC's version Jimmy Buffet's Fins. And go to work for SoundChoice -- they have great guitars but their harp players suck.

Oddly, I have never heard the song Baaza is talking about either - even went to listen from various sources thinking it might be differently recorded. So as far as Mr. Edwards music goes, Sunshine is the only one i've ever heard, and actually owned on 45.
