I was just wondering if anyone has a flier to hand out to bar owners detailing the benefits of hiring karaoke for their bar. I know I saw one somewhere that I could use and tailor to my own needs, but I can't seem to find it now. Anyone have one they're willing to share?
Thanks!

I have been using the one provided by Kiaa even though I am not a member because is covers the legal aspects of hiring pirate.

I did find another flyer at firelight karaoke's website but have not been using it since it is copyrighted. I sent a note to them asking if I could copy it but never got a response back.

D, if you want to send me your e-mail, I can send you several that I have used successfully over the years. I actually spent quite a bit of time putting these together and have several different packets - for different kinds of venues. Let me know.

Thanks, Rum, but I'm not looking for ones that address piracy. I'm looking for ones that cover the positives of hiring karaoke. Thanks Karen. Pm sent!

Here is the link to the other flyer I was refering to.

You might want to check it out.

Rumbolt, the problem I see with the antipiracy flyers, while it is an important thing, could backfire and turn the establishment against karaoke.

I kinda agree, and then what if the bar is not currently paying ASCAP/BMI???

The spot I hang out on Friday nights, had no idea what ASCAP was until they got a letter two weeks ago. They had been doing Karaoke on Friday nights since Aug. The $900 or so that ASCAP is asking for the year is cheap in my book, but they made a big stink about it. Had they known about it in advance they might of never started karaoke,

Then they better turn off any tv or radio otherwise they will still be required to pay Ascap and/or BMI fees.

Educating them is the chance we must take to help our business and if they are any kind of real business person and not just a bar owner that has a bar so they can drink cheap will look at the business aspect type of entertainment they choose to have. What if they were doing live music and the bands played cover songs. Would they stop havein live music?

I have used the flyers perhaps for nothing more than education. What they do is up to them until there is better inforcement.

It doesn't do the KJ a whole lot of good to tie up a night and start a show only to have the bar discontinue because they get approached in a heavy handed way by ASCAP (or more likely) BMI... If you don't see a sticker, it's probably a better use of your time to keep moving and find a bar that isn't too cheap to pay the fees. I doubt there really are very many professional bar owners who don't know all about ASCAP and BMI unless they just opened for business

And the JUKEBOX...

She is a very young nice girl(early twenties) and still dosnt really grasp the concept of licensing fees. She asked the KJ if he was supposed to pay it. She was talking to me about it and I explained, she still sent letter off to the companies lawyer for review. It was less than $20 per week when broken down... Prior to Karaoke this place was a ghost town, at times I would walk in and be their only customer(dating one of the bartenders). Now on Friday nights it gets to capacity occasionally. I had never sung karaoke b4 then, now Im hooked.

And no education is not a bad thing, just might not be the biggest selling point when trying to get a gig.

Not necessarily true. There is an exemption for bars of less than a certain square footage (3750, in general).

Again, I was asking about flyers for MY business, NOT antipiracy flyers. I have zero interest in that.
And I would appreciate not having this thread turned into yet another piracy rant-along.
Please! Let's stick to the subject at hand, which was:
I am looking for flyers to give to the bars/venues to help them understand why hiring karaoke ie: me! (leave the pirates out of the equation, please!) would be to their advantage.
Once again... NO piracy discussion here please! Make your own thread for that!

Then they are stupid to begin with, if they even have nothing more than a tv, they are supposed to legally be paying the publishing fees (ASCAP/BMI/Etc).

Sticker, what sticker? Rare if I see one. I know a bar owner right now that has been around 12 -13 years that just got his first letter from ascap last fall and has no clue. He has been doing karaoke in house for at least 10 years. Bar owners really do not have a clue. And when you try to explain to them what the fee is for you migh as well be talking to a empty beer bottle.

I thought that you were trying to promote legal karaoke vs pirated. My bad. :?

Not if they have less than 3750 square feet and less than 6 tvs. That covers a huge percentage of bars in the Midwest.

Can we PLEASE!!!! skip the piracy discussion or move to another thread? This was NOT intended to be yet another piracy discussion!
By continuing to discuss piracy here, you're making it harder for me and possibly others to find the information we want, which is what this thread was intended to be!
NOT a piracy discussion. We have enough of those elsewhere. Please STOP highjacking my thread and go make your own!
