My wife went to Hawaii way back in 2005 and sang at a place called the Banana Patch Lounge in a local hotel called the Miramar. The Miramar is located in Honolulu on Kuhio Avenue about a block and a half from Waikiki beach. The wife says watch out for the lizards... lol. She adds you can catch some free music and native dancing in the evenings out on the streets.

For better or worse, here's what she had to say about the karaoke...

She reports the sound system was pretty decent and the bar itself was a pretty plush place, but there were a few quirky things about the karaoke...

You have to pay the KJ a dollar to sing. On the week night they let her get up on stage. On Saturday they made people sing from their table. Lots of TVs all over the place to see the words.

When they are doing the table thing, they call your name, you raise your hand and a guy comes over with a wireless mic and takes your dollar. He hangs around till your done, they call the next name and the process gets repeated. The rotation was extremely long, but you can even sing Hawaiian or Japanese songs if that's your thing. She says there weren't many songs she didn't know actually sung the night she was there. She thinks the book was probably 6-7000 songs, but who knows by now. The KJs were a married couple billed as Mr. and Mrs. B. They will play your discs. The crowd pretty much just clapped for their pals.

I don't think we've seen jreynolds around for a while. He has some shows in Hawaii. You might try PMing him.
