I posted this on another person's post and am moving it to its own. I'm having trouble geting myself together w/ respect to choosing and setting up my gear due to a lack of experience on my part. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not a working KJ. But I have a pair of 15g2's and a Mackie 12 channel mixer with effects. I'm not looking to sell. The only reason I jumped in here is curiousity. I'm trying to put together a one man band act. I went to a party 2 weeks ago and heard a person singing (only) with kar tracks through an I-pod. His vocals were not all that impressive and his music and sound was not so great. He tells me he gets $400 per gig range; this peaked my interest. Therefore, Ive been contemplating trying something on this order. I have 3 sets of PA gear that I use one or the other once a year; a Mackie power mixer w/ 2 peavey sp-2's black widow loaded, and, a very old peavey pa head with 2 ea 15" + Horn cabinets. It seems to me that the best quality and loudest sound comes from the sp-2 set up. We tried them one agaist the other one Saturday in the driveway, outside. However, I was hopeing not to have to carry around the sp-2's. Incidently, I also have 2 ea powered eon 10's. Now it would probably be my preference to only have to carry these around, (I also have a berhnger 6 channel Mixer w/effect for these.) Does JBL make a 10" small powered sub with appropriate cross-over connections that I can get to put with the eon 10's; something easy to carry and will all fit under the lid of my pick-up? I guess I'm searching to see if anyone out there has similar equipment to what I already own that can give me advice on how to get the best sound quality out of it by either adding small subs, scratching te idea and just use the eon15's etc, etc, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Joey

welll....a bit off of what you are asking, but If I were you, and I have been in a similar situation and spent too much $$$$$. I would first see how the gigs pan out b4 "upgrading". Perhaps if you get a lot of bookings you can even go up a step higher.
In my situation I was running sound for a 4-person vocal group, that was using Karaoke tracks for music. It was a good run for abut 1.5 years, but then then it came to a quick end. I spent to much on new equipment, that now sits in my trailer for about 363 days in the year.

Thanks Twasenne for writing me back. I guess my problem is that I have some of the ingrediances of a system but lack all necessary components to comprise a complete good sounding system. I can't tell you all how helpfull this forum has been to me in just the last two days of finding it. Just being able to write in to the forum is helping me to clear up my thoughts on what I want to accomplish. I've done a lot of reading herein, and that's also helped a bunch.
I'm thinking I may want to first start out with completing a small system for home parties using either the 2 ea eon 10's OR 1 ea of the eon 15's along with the Behringer xenyx1202fx mixer. I could either use my Sennheiser e835 corded microphone or my Scotts Wireless dual UM-25's. I do have two CDG players but I'd rather just use my work laptop and purchase the + - $280 of software which was suggested herein on another post. Maybe even just starting out I could use my I-phone w/ I-tunes purchased Kar, although I don't think I can make key changes. Does anyone have a used I-pod touch 16 or 32 they may want to sell me?
With respect to tweeking my sound especially getting my vocals to shine, I would like to get to the point where I understand what things like compression, gate, targer frequency range, and etc. really mean. I need to learn how to better use my mixers. Also, I am reading here-in about attachment accessories devices and processors for the enhancement of vocals. I would like to learn what these are all about and how to use them.
This forum has already helped me very much. Please continue to write in. All advice is greatly appreciated.
P.S. Twasenne I'm very interested in hearing more about the 4-piece band w/ Kar tracks. I'm a keyboard player and vocalist. I think I could get more jobs if I played keys and sang w/ tracks than just tracks. Give me some of your insight along this avenue also.
Thanks!!! Joey

I would just use the pair of EON 15g2s that you have, and add a sub later on IF NEEDED.
What model is the Mackie mixer you have, bought a PA system with the Behringer 1202FX... I sold it to a local KJ, and it is better than the Gemini DJ mixer he was using but your mackie might be better.
As for software, I think winamp is still free and I know it has Karaoke plugins. Convert your discs to MP3g so you dont have to carry them around. It does not sound like you are really gonna host, just create a playlist in winamp and go.

If you a one man show you should use the DIGITECH VX400 for your effects.

Hey Ralphm773! Thanks for writing in... I looked at the manual for the device processor you mentioned. It looks like it does a lot of different things. Which are the things (functions) you had in mind that you thought would help me the most? Thanks!!! Joey
