Yep, it would be both ironic and amusing to me if that happened. With the success of their methods for getting monies from pirates that's not likely to happen, though.

And you are aware that for all intents and purposes they are out of the "business" of producing new CDG's?

And if they do return to the karaoke business with some different format, I also find it ironic that while the pirates who have settled seem delighted with the terms they have been given by SC, many legit KJ's are determined to have nothing to do with SC going forward because of those terms!

Agreed and yes I am aware that their production of new discs almost came to a hold.

Me personally, I don't use any SC versions during my shows anymore. Simply for the reason because SC is suing first and then asks questions about the legality of your library. And I assume that most of my venues wouldn't be happy about a law suit. So I further assume that I would lose business, even though I'm legit. I can't afford that.

So for me personal, no matter what SC is planning on doing in regards of producing songs, I will no longer buy any of them. Period.

There are enough other companies to choose from, who produce quality Karaoke songs and most of them are even cheaper than SC. (Quick Hits, Sunfly, Zoom, etc.)

Wouldn't it be ironic (in a way) if SC, while attempting to recover money wherever possible, shoots itself a whole in the foot and goes out of business caused by it?

I suspect that that's exactly why SC doesn't want to actually see the inside of a courtroom. They know they haven't got a sound case to begin with and trying it in court may give grounds for innocents to counter-sue and take all their "[strike]hard-extorted[/strike]", I mean hard-earned monies from them.

For those who are upset about the "good deal" SC is giving the pirates, here's something to think about:

When you settle with SC for $6500, here's what you get. Foundation 1, Foundation 2, all 5 Bricks, and the rest of Spotlights SC has on hand. A total of about 425 disks. That's all. If you divide $6500 by 425 disks, you come up with slightly over 15.25 a disk. The pirates aren't getting such a great deal after all. Back in the day when SC was producing, I could buy disks at about $17.00.

How do I know this? When SC came through NC a while back, some people settled, and only got about 425 disks as described above. Also, for the folks that do children's shows, the BFlat The Cat children's series was not included, and for those that have a high Latino population, none of the Sirco Hispanico series was included. So, contrary to popular belief, you don't really get the ENTIRE SC library.

Here's what i have to say about that:
1) Doing karaoke in public venues, as I do, if it were me receiving the discs I would have no desire to have childrens' or Hispanic discs included. I, therefore, would consider it to be "justice" if the 425 discs included a good number of those discs!
2) When SC started making settlement offers, it was purported that there were over 600 discs in the "deal"
3) Nonetheless, the pirates are not being asked to pay full price for the discs they receive (full price being MSRP) And based upon the typical "deals" offered on e-bay and elsewhere, the average person will pay more for those 425 discs than what SC is asking from the pirates. And... the pirates are getting additional discounts on each additional set they purchase, and they are getting interest-free payment plans.

Now this is what you'll pay for the above:

Foundation I & 2 –30 discs @ $350 = 60 discs/898 songs/$700
Bricks 1-5 - 8 discs @$99 = 40 discs/590 songs/$500
Spotlight Series @$17.95 ea =325 discs/5250 songs/$5833
TOTAL = 425 discs/6738 songs/$7033

4) BUT MOST NOTABLE TO ME IS: SC is settling with pirates and SUPPORTING their ongoing existence as specifically stated in various posts and in various fashions by Kurt Slep. And not only are the pirates purchasing current, useful, quality products at a savings off of the typical retail offering, but they are purchasing the products on TERMS that have never been offered legitimate operators and at discounts for additional set (for each additional rig)

Well it seems things are changing now that the FBI is involved with raiding the HD Distributor, Dan Sterns Place.

Now the IRS is going to make some cash on the tax evasion from this guy!
