Yes it is & hopefully the FBI may go after everyone he sold to once they sort through all the evidence they have collected.
Of course tax evasion looks pretty solid. Just think of all the tax evasion going on with the people who bought these drives. However, I understand that many who bought the drives were probably duped & are ignorant to that these HDs are full of stolen property...

WOW! Incredible read. Thanks for posting Wall Of Sound.
Simple math would indicate over 1.7 THOUSAND drives could've been sold at the $380 "average price" indicated in the warrant.
GREED will get you everytime. This guy seems to have been making nearly $100k a year at his regular job. so all of this was out of greed, not desperation.
NEVER ASK THE WIFE TO DO THE SIMPLE MATH!!

Slep-Tone only sells its recordings in CD+G format. Slep-Tone authorizes its customers to “format shift” and transfer the contents of a genuine SOUND CHOICE CD+G recording to a single computer or MP3 player, provided that the customer keeps the original copy of the CD+G in his possession as an archival copy that is not used.
So, it is written in a legal document. Can we please stop worrying about this now? They are authorizing format shifting to a single computer as long as we have the original.

Found an ad where he was selling loaded hard drives for $299. Don't forget he has to buy the hard drives too.

"only sells its recordings in CD+G format?"
Well then they better QUICKLY add Amazon.com to their lawsuit.... since Amazon sells THOUSANDS of SC discs in MP3 format only.
Simple theory: Throw enough crap at a wall and something is bound to stick....

@ SIMPLE MATH....SIX HUNDRED AND FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS DIVIDED BY 380 DOLLARS PER DRIVE COMES OUT TO 1710 HARD DRIVES SOLD.......NOT 1.7 MILLION DRIVES.

'Ya know, I just hate it when there is a person/place/thing that registers as a "newbie" and then immediately begins posting legal links like they've been lurking/snooping around for some time under a different identity or they are just someone with an agenda...
Then when you post something back, they go to peek at your profile to see just who you are.... in the meantime, they want to stay cloaked while stirring up as much as they can.... Like WallOfSound did.... checked my profile within an hour of posting...
Kinda high on the creepy-factor don't 'ya think? Not to mention that it looks like they're simply using this site to "harvest information." A very quick and cursory examination of psycho-attitude-productions.com (a happy "registered member" of KIAA), doesn't display a single person's name. Proud of their affliation, ashamed of their own name.... tssk, tsk....
(Pssst: WallOfSound, in case you didn't know: every person's profile you've been looking at gets notified automatically that you've been there. Bummer news ain't it? I peeked at yours just to show you what it's like.)

I'm not sure of the problem with someone looking at your profile. There's much more info to be gained by hitting the www button and then doing a whois in Google. Just like anyone could do with mine. Not hiding under a rock here.
If anyone is perrynoid, it should be me.

I don't care if they look at mine there's nothing I'm hiding or ashamed of ... it's just a creepy way for them to snoop around... and I did the whois... there's nothing there other than it was created with the last couple months...... (hmmmm... and already has gigs and 16,000 unique songs on a hard drive?.... sounds like a you-know-what to me -- better report 'em)
However, I could be wrong.....

Doesn't seem like a lot of effort was put into cloaking the company represented or the agenda. They seem to be not just up front about it but pretty much in your face about it. You can disagree with the aganda it but I wouldn't call it "cloaked." The big KIAA emblem on all the posts sort of gives you a clue.
As for the links--I am glad the info was posted. It was straight info with no interpretation put on it. It allows us to see what is going on and analyze for ourselves.

what I find interesting is that Sound Choice was onto this guy since 2006 yet they didn't try to put him out of business immediately. Did they want to allow him to sell to as many people as possible so they would have a list of pirates to start their latest venture with. If that is the case; could someone who purchased a hard drive from Mr. Bene claim that they were entrapped by Sound Choice? I bet that there are a lot of people that are worried about checking their mailboxes these days. I sure wouldn't want to be Mr. Bene either.

I believe it is the FBI that investigated this guy and was probably reported to the FBI then (I am guessing). I do not know why it takes so long, but that seems to be the way they work. Still, more power to them!

Craigslist is now hopping in my area trying to get rid of pre-loaded drives cheap!
http://reno.craigslist.org/sys/1721843675.html
I love the "get it today, these drives will no longer be sold after this week. We are getting out of the business"
I flagged it so let's see if it gets removed....
