Danny,

Is this the website?

http://www.karaoke-version.com/

Just want to make sure because their disclaimer states:

"This website respects all music copyrights. All rights are reserved for the protected works reproduced on this website. Without permission, all uses other than home and private use are forbidden."

You know, I don't get this "for home use only." Who in the dickens do they think is buying the majority of the music these manu's sell? I don't believe it is just an error in semantics, and I wonder the reason they say it. I don't know many people who have, for home use, 17,000 songs.

It is just their way they think they are covering their butts! That way if it shows up in a kj's "professional" library than they can claim they did their due dilligance. Kinda like all those stickers on the six foot ladder you buy at your local home center.

Ummmm..... You want to know who has that many for "home use"? Well we do. We started buying karaoke discs because ALL of the KJ's that we went to did not have the ones he wanted to sing. Old and new songs. And along the way have bought ALOT of discs from all over both here in the US and from Canada. And we even have a karaoke player in our party barn. My husband also used to be in a band so we already had alot of equipment.
The only reason he even did some KJing is because a lady we know has stage 4 cancer and she asked him to take over sometimes when she could not work it. But then when he did he was using her discs anyway and not his for everyone else. So ya there are people that have that many just for "home use"

My parents have over that many on laserdisc, cdg & dvd for casual home use. They are addicts....lol. Never once have they downloaded however oddly enough, they want a physical disc.

I think my husband and Lonman's parents went to the same school, lol. He gets kinda obsessive sometimes about stuff.
When he was in a band he started to buy other instruments. His brother-in-law had to forbid him from buying anymore till he learned the others that he bought. By the way in the band he played: Bodhran, Congas, Bass, Mandolin, Squeeze box, Penny Whistle, Mouth Harp. I think I got them all. I would have to go thru the gig lists to see if I missed some. When typing up the list of songs to play when at a gig I would have to put what instrument he was to play cause it was so many, lol.
The others that he bought to learn were: Violin, bag pipes among others.

Partytime discs sound pretty good!

Karaoke Kurrents are another decent manufacturer although not as good as Pop Hits Monthly IMHO.

I haven't seen a NEW Monster Hits disc in years......same thing goes for Laughing Gnome. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places?

Of course the general (unproven one way or the other) feeling is that 'permission' comes from paying ASCAP BMI et al. No manufacturer is in a position to permit anything other than home or private use. Now if Sound Choice (as they semi claim on the website) allow public use then someone with only SC discs could reasonably argue for their venue that no ASCAP / BMI fees are due since the works are already permitted for public performance by SC and that that's where they royalties should come from. (Stirs pot, adds a little thread hijacking - sorry)

Yup, absolutely wrong. the establishment still has to pay the fees, regardless. It has nothing to do with permission for public performance of the discs by the manufacturer, or anyone else for that matter.
