Nah their not jealous, just a bit scared. I'm packing a Super Soaker 2000. I can take out a singer in a single blast. That's right - follow the rules - or else.

Well of course, there is not much else that can keep us 'kriplets' grounded, for goodness sakes.

Coming late to this discussion. I believe the best trait for a KJ is sense of humor. If nothing works, making your audience smile or laugh definitely works for me. I do have a few shticks I use.
One such is a friend of mine, who is a big African American guy, who has range of Barry White. I help with his schtick by introducing him as my favorite soprano. People don't get that joke until he starts to sing.
A good interact action with the crowd and keeping them laughing almost always works. Of course, you have to have a sense of humor the crowd appreciates.

ABSOLUTELY sense of humor. Ability to make people laugh without being overbearing - not a 1-minute standup routine but making connections with people through little comments, etc. It all comes down to making people feel important, and how you do that is very venue/crowd dependent.
