I'm just going to replace them when they first get a crackle somewhere in the cable. (i hate that "now you hear me, now you don't" when you move a cord)

No more soldering and applying electrical tape to worn out cords. I have 6 on the way, so I'll be good with cords for a while. I only run 3 at a time.

$7200? Surely you're joking? Can't imagine having a cable worth more than my guitar, fiddle, mics, speakers, and mixer combined, Lol. If I did, it dam.n sure better make me sound golden;)

No, apparently people pay high prices for cables thinking they make a difference in sound. All the blind testing in the world has never shown that anyone can reliably tell the difference when the cable is reasonably good.

A good-quality cable is nice to have, but if it isn't breaking connection, i.e. dropping out, it isn't gong to make the sound "muddy". And yes, the SM58 isn't as "bright" as other mics in a lot of cases. I would describe the sound generally as "warm", which works pretty well for a lot of voices.

A lot of the vocals on Michael Jackson's Thriller were through an SM58. And that's what he used on tour. 'Nuff said, as far as I am concerned, when I hear from the detractors. It may not be the best mic, but it's a darn good one.

I find it easier to mix a Shure Mic in the karaoke mix than a brighter, hotter mic. When I first started, I used some Samson R21 mics, and with all flat frequencies flat, they were WAYYYYY to bright and out in front of the mix. The Shure has such a subtle, smooth frequency response, that it takes just a very slight boost to the mids and highs to get 99% of singers just slightly above the main mix.
