Can someone please help me? I recently downloaded all of my songs onto a laptop computer. I also recently purchased the Bose L1 speaker system. I am not sure how to set this all up and do not want to make any incorrect connections and damage the equipment. I currently have the following equipment:

Speakers: Bose L1 w/two subwoofers
Amp: Mackie 808S
CDG Player: Numark KX01
Mics: One Wireless Shure; two Audix wired
Monitor: 19" Flatscreen w/HDMI
Laptop: HP G71-340us Notebook PC
Software: Power Karaoke and KARMA

I was told that I don't have to use my amp and that I can hook this up all through the Bose L1. Is this possible? Also, the KARMA software I purchased mentions that I should buy a "sound card". Is this needed?

Any help anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated.

I just bought a motorcycle yesterday but have no idea how to drive it.

Can anyone here tell what to do so I don't wreck and kill myself? I don't have time to take any riding classes or read the owners manual.

:P

(Sorry...couldn't resist!)

Nice, Bazza.

I really do like the whole idea of "I just spent $3000.00 on equipment to become a karaoke DJ. Now will someone tell me how it works?"

Kinda puts the cart before the horse, huh?

BUT, here's your help, McGhee:

The Numark KMX-01 is the workstation of the system, so everything runs through it.

The BOSE hooks up to the MASTER OUTPUTS on the rear of the Numark with XLR cables.

The monitor will hook up to the VIDEO OUT on the rear of the unit with an RCA cable. You may need an adapter if your monitor does not have and RCA video option.

The laptop will also hook up to the monitor, so you may need a switch box to switch between the CDG output of the Numark and the laptop video output. If you are running all of your karaoke off the laptop, and not using CDGs, then you don't need to hook the monitor up to the Numark unit (and probably should have gotten a PA mixer instead of a DJ mixer).

The laptop audio will also hook up to the RCA AUDIO INs of the Numark. You can run a 1/8" Y adpater out of the laptop headphone jack, but for better sound, you'll need an external USB soundcard with RCA outs.

The mics will hook up to the MIC 2, MIC 3, and DJ MIC inputs, depending on which ones you want where. The mic preamplifiers in the Numark are not going to be the best quality, though, so you may even want to use the Mic inputs on the BOSE system itself for the wireless mic.

You don't need the amp at all in this setup, since the BOSE is self-powered.

That's it.

Question, are you trying to run a commercial karaoke show with this equipment, or is it just for home use? You have really grossly overpaid for your audio equipment, and could have better sound for less money if you are able to send this stuff back.

The Numark and the BOSE system are WAYYYYYY overpriced for what they do, and you have built a system without a pro-level mixer and with crappy mic pre-amps, and bought an amp that you don't even need.

You've spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $3000.00 total for a system that isn't going to sound much better than something most of us could put together for around $1000.00 or so.

Your system isn't going to sound bad, you just overpaid for what it is. The BOSE L1 is really meant for one-man bands and acoustic guitar kinda applications, not high SPL karaoke/DJing.

TopherM,

Thanks for the info. Actually, for what it's worth, I did do a lot of research on this, it was just that everyone I talked to whether it be Latshaw, Bose, Numark, Mackie, etc., all told me different ways to set this up. All I recently purchased was the Bose speaker and the software for my laptop. All of the other equipment I had from years ago when I was just using the cds. The reason I went for the Bose speaker was because of the weight issue. My Mackie speakers were just getting to heavy to be carrying around. Once again, I appreciate your help.

Shame on you Bazza and TopherM for your assumptions tha the OP was a total newbie and hadn't done any research...turns out he isn't a total newbie and has done research.
Bazza, if a post that is asking for advice irks you because of the assumption(s) you make about the OP then just ignore the post...nothing says you have to make a smart azz comment.
At least Topher did offer advice along with his assumptions. Thanks TopherM.

mcghee57, not everyone on this forum is so rude.

RLC,

Thanks for the reasurrance. I really appreciated your response and the help that Topher offered. I look at these Forums as like a "pay forward". I am a woman and this equipment just keeps getting heavier and heavier and that's is why I upgraded to lighter equipment. No more carrying around heavy discs, hoping someone offers to help placing those 50 lb.+ speakers on the stands, etc. Sometimes the price is worth it.

He was not being rude.
Think he must have known my X-wife.
Don't know why he referred to her as a motorcycle though.

I never did find the instruction manual for her.

Would those be SRM450"s.
I have them.
I use SRM350 V2's.
Half the weight.
Awesome.

Probably are the SRM450's, think they weigh in at 52lbs or there abouts. That is what I have as well...yeah they get a little heavy putting them up on the stands...especially the second one! :D

By the way mcghee57 I am also using Karma...wonderful program...built on the Bass sound technology so it puts out quality sound but you could probably benefit from an external sound card as TopherM stated in his post...many to choose from $30 and up.

I would buy the Bose L1 if I could afford it. :) The L1 makes my guitars sing!

I don't believe it would cut it in a larger venue with a lot of people. But for a small to medium sized gig you should have no issues. It is a brilliant piece of equipment that takes some tweaking to get the sound you want. Once you do, it sounds like a dream.

The following link might give you some idea on connections:

Good luck tweaking.

Yes, they are the SRM450's. I also like the KARMA software; very user friendly. By the way, I bought an external sound card at Best Buy. Everything is up and running and sounds awesome.

Thanks again.

No it wasn't a joke Bazza...it was a very apparent dig at the OP.

To try and spin it any other way IS A JOKE!
