So from another topic here comes another question about karaoke singing.

How many songs are on your playlist to sing?
How many different ones do you know?
Can you sing some without the lyrics showing?
If someone asks you to sing a song that you a) never sung before AND b) never even heard before - will you attempt because they are the customer and want to hear it but not to sing themselves. Will you have them at least stand next to you so that they can join in if they feel like?
Or do just sing the same 15 or 20 songs and call that enough?
How many of you just taken a disc (esp on a slow night) and just picked a number off the disc without knowing what it was and trying it?

I know there are alot of questions and if you only want to answer some or none that is your perogotive.

I really don't like to sing the same songs too many times. Every time I go out to sing, I try to sing new songs only. I often don't get the song right but that doesn't bother me.

I have probably sang about 250 songs or more.

Know completely? Same as above, know partially to get through? Probably close to 350-400 songs.

There is my weakness, I have hard time remembering lyrics. I can usually remember the melody or even harmony parts but I have to see the lyrics to sing. I can probably sing about 3-4 songs without lyrics.

I will definitely try new songs, even if I don't know it. I am known to subject myself to suicide karaoke, where the host picks a random song for me to sing. It's a lot of fun, specially if you have to improvise your way through the song.

Right at this point in time I have 132 songs in my history that I do sing on a semi regular basis. Some more than others of course. But all of them I know by heart, should only have to glance occasionally at the lyrics on a few of the lyrics.

I have lots more that I do, but haven't done in so very long, that they won't show up in my history, since I got the program after I sang them last. However, of all those songs, I put them into three mental categories,,,category C--.songs I know and like,,,category B -- songs I know, and can sing, (this is the biggest share of course),,,and category A -- songs, I like, can sing, and go over big with the crowd. These are the ones that I work towards all the time.

Yeah, like eben, I too get asked to try new ones all the time, and I try to accomodate when it's a slow night, but usually bomb new songs at first tries..It takes me several times to finally get them right. I also like the suicide karaoke at times,,,,usually makes the crowd laugh, and gets them in a good mood, realizing that karaoke can be silly too.
One time i asked one person to choose a disc number,,,and then another person to pick a number between 1-15,,,and THAT was the song i sang. Turned out to be Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go on",,,can you say "HOLY CHIT BATMAN!"..lets see,,a baratone,,singing falsetto,,,hey I tried! I am questioning my sexuality tho..lmao..kidding!!!!

I say, ya gotta do different things to keep them coming back. Thats all..

I have like 100,000 songs in my wreckertoire. Actually I'm not sure. I know the complete lyrics to very few songs--I need the karaoke krutch! I think a song sounds the best the first several times you sing it, or after you've taken a long hiatus from the song. Not knowing a song extremely well can actually make it sound better IMHO.

For me it's not how many songs I know, but whether I know enough songs well enough that I really enjoy to sing that will happen to fit the mood of the crowd that I'm singing for. I imagine I could half-@ss at least a hundred and there are some rather obscure songs I like that nobody else knows that I sing pretty well, but why subject a crowd to that?

My own choice has been to concentrate the bulk of my repertoire expansion efforts on the top 200 most requested songs. I'm still developing my modest singing skills to take on some of the more challenging songs that are on that list now or in the relatively recent past. The challenge factor keeps me from getting bored and also makes it less likely people are burnt out on hearing those songs. Some of them I sing only at home for my own pleasure and maybe I'll never get good enough to do them publicly, but at least I feel like I'm focusing my efforts on the best use of my limited practice time.

Probably more than 400 at one point in time, since my voice died a couple years back, I have now maybe 20 songs I can do ok - but even those depend on the night & how the vocal cords are feeling.

I don't generally do songs I don't know. Just am not that good at it unless I *really* know the song well.

But I know lots of songs, and get a fair number of requests for songs that I do know. I actually keep a practice list, and I have compilation disks burned with my repertoire.

I am pretty fair at remembering lyrics, and probably have 120 songs I can reliably get through without seeing the screen at all. I know most of my lyrics. Almost all of my 385 total songs I have ever done (in practice and/or out at shows) I don't really do more than glance at the screen from time to time. I never stare at it and read lyrics.

I practice most every song I do multiple times, and I keep practicing the songs. A few people over time have said things like "how do you *remember* all those lyrics?" because they see I don't look at the screen and that I do *lots* of songs.
