Check out this Amazon seller, who has new ones for $253, just remember to ask that they're not old 700MHz versions first!

Hate to bring gloom and doom in my first post (though I've been lurking a while). The AKG WMS 40 on the eBay link is on the FCC's wireless mic ban list as it operates between 698 & 806MHz. Using it becomes illegal after June 12th this year.

Really? No wonder they did not list the frequency range. Is it even legal for them to sell these? I guess it won't be after June 1st? Some of these auctions go beyond June 1st.

Maybe I will go with Mic #4 instead.

Check my link above - well i'll just post again.

This mic is available from Zzounds in the corrected frequency range. Same price, free shipping.

Sorry Lonnie, I was talking about the ebay listing that was almost $100 less than that posting. Same thing about the Amazon listing above. Both are about $100 less but does not list the frequency range. I am betting they are older model. I sent out an email to the seller asking for the frequency range and have not received the answer yet. Stay tuned.

The ebay listing for mic 3 you listed is the same price as the Zzounds link.

Lonnie, I was talking about the seller on eBay DannyG was talking about for $255. BTW, I got the email back from the same seller. Here is what the say:

"660.700 & 662.300 MHZ"

That is within legal range of frequencies. I wonder how they can sell them for almost $100 cheaper than others.

Sounds like a deal, but remember that some manufacturers can be fussy over not buying from an authorized dealer if you need a warranty repair.

the link I gave you is actually the people I bought mine from and can attest that they are quick in shipping out their product. The only thing is that you need to get a rack kit for it to fit into your rack.

Thanks for the advice. Two questions. Does not having XLR connection have any influence on the quality of the sound? Second, is there a rack kit you can buy easily for the unit?

I own a rack kit and have mine mounted in my rack. RMU 40 I believe the kit is called.

Not the one I linked to. It is below the 698 threshold.

Just got the AKG today. The frequencies were 660.7 MHz and 662.3 MHz, so I am safe. I can't wait to try it out on Thursday evening.

Finally had a chance to try it out on a gig last night. Those AKGs sound great! What a difference between them and my old Pyle Pro wireless. They even sound better than my wired mics! Thanks for the recommendation. These are going to sound even better when my A&H mixer comes in.

Well, I liked the mics so much, I wanted to get another so I would have total of four mics. I guess it's a no go. Everyone of the mics operate on the same frequencies. So, it's not possible to have two receivers and four mics at the same time. I sent an email to AKG asking if they have different frequencies but I have not heard back.

The reason for the two sets, while I was doing a gig, I found out that one of the frequencies got a bad interference and couldn't use it. I was near the ocean so my assumption is that some marine bad is interfering with it. The other channel worked fine.

Also, I guess these mics are fixed frequencies? I can not find the way to change the frequencies on these. Is it possible? I know it's probably in the manual but I lost it for now and can't find it.

They are fixed frequencies. We have never had trouble, but it is certainly possible, I suppose.

As far as four mics go, there *used* to be that may different available. But now the 698-802MHz ones can't be used, and that leaves (I think) two.

You are in the UK --- Eben is in the US. The 800 range isn't legal here.

Sorry I thought it was just in the Early 800's range that was illlegal

Sorry I thought it was just in the Early 800's range that was illlegal

The AKG manuals list the 800 range micophones as being only appropriate for sale in countries besides the U.S.

Here are the US allocations in that range:

# 470–512 MHz: TV channels 14–20 (also shared for land mobile 2-way radio use in some areas)
# 512–698 MHz: TV channels 21–51 (channel 37 used for radio astronomy)
# 698–806 MHz: Was auctioned in March 2008; bidders got full use after the transition to digital TV was completed on June 12, 2009 (formerly UHF TV channels 52–69)
# 806–824 MHz: Public safety and commercial 2-way (formerly TV channels 70–72)
# 824–851 MHz: Cellular A & B franchises, terminal (mobile phone) (formerly TV channels 73–77)
# 851–869 MHz: Public safety and commercial 2-way (formerly TV channels 77–80)
# 869–896 MHz: Cellular A & B franchises, base station (formerly TV channels 80–83)

It looks like 512-698 is what is left.
