Hi,
I am new to this site that I accidently found while doing some research, seems to be pretty good!

Anyway, I decided to upgrade my all in one vocopro karaoke machine (which was okay for a while until I caught the karaoke bug and started craving "more"), and I need help and advice with my new home system and since I am technically challenged  simplicity is key for me.

This is what I have so far:
Cavs JB99 with 30,000 songs
2 - wireless Audio Technica mics
2 - wired Audio Technica mics that i don't intend to use often
2 - cheap wireless Hisonic mics (for drunk friends and relatives)
2 - non PA speakers not worth mentioning

As you can probably tell my system's sound quality is not great right now. I KNOW I need a mixer/mixing amplifier and speakers (perhaps powered) and I think I could be done (not sure)? I want my system to sound better than decent as I will be using it alot, but because this is for my home I don't think I need to overkill in reference to speakers (I'm not sure). As far as mixing amplfiers, I've read alot of good reviews about the Audio2000 AKJ 7050 on this site, but the Martin Roland MA 3000K looks very interesting - any thoughts. I need HELP on what additional equiptment I need and should have for my new home system, especially speakers. Any and all advice and thoughts will be GREATLY appreciated.
Thank you in advance ,
Lorraine :D

I don't care for the "karaoke" mixing amps. They are underpowered for club work IMO. However for home only use, they would probably be just fine. I had a chance to finally hear the Martin Roland MA3000 & was not impressed at all. No low end & very tinny/piercing sounding. Although it LOOKS like a good system, I wouldn't recommend.
What you end up getting will also be dependent on how much you want to learn about audio & your what budget will allow. If you only want to spend a couple hundred bucks, then that's what your sound will end up sounding like. If you want to put a couple thousand into your sound, then you will have something that will kick butt!
Give us a little more to work with here......

Thank you very much Lonman for the info on the Martin Roland MA3000 - good to know.

I do realize that a couple of hundred dollars will not get you far since one of my mics cost me about that. I will spend what I need (I don't really have a budget but I do want to buy wisely) to have a "better than decent" HOME system. I don't need the best but I would like "pretty good sound".

I am willing to learn about audio but I still would like to keep it simple.

Thanx,
Lorraine :D

Not to start anything here, but if you get yourself a set of powered JBL speakers and a mixer, you're very well on the way.

The JBL Eon15p power speakers go for aroud $800 a set.

Look for something like a Mackie DFX-12, around $240, or the Behringer UB1204 for around $120.

Please no comments or arguments regarding Behringer or Mackie. I'm trying to give Lorraine some options!

I will not go into the discussion of microphones.

You might not be able to serve a club that can take a 1000 people, but we've been playing little hole in the wall bars (max 100 people) and have been kicking pretty darn good.

Another thing, you don't need to spend zillions to sound good. What you have to do is buy the best you can afford, for what is suited for your needs. What I was reading from Lonman I agree. Do not buy some "karaoke set". They all suck. If you buy, buy professional. It might be a bit more expensive, but you'll have so much pleasure out of it.

Something else..........
Don't let anyone bully you into buying a specific brand. All professional equipment today is competing in an extremely competitive market. And no brand would have been able to last if the quality wasn't good enough.

I personally have had good luck with the "karaoke mixing amp" AKJ7000... quite a great deal for the money!

Im just starting out in this Karaoke thingy and thought id add my 2 cents. until two weeks ago I was using a fender passport mixer amp (150) with a CAVS202 deck. then my first show I made $70.00 in tips (was a freebie show) second show was paid and still brought in alot of tip cash and continuing . so I bought a Peavey 600g 400 watt mixer amp and a set of Peavey Pro 12 speakers all for $800.00 (new) The sound is fantastic. the amp has effects built in as well as 2 EQ's.. People love how they sound thru my system. all I need now is a rotation program for my Lap top. I soon will be building a hard drive (external ) and running my whole show disc'less. So for Under a grand you can get good Equipment and pay it off in no time. (minus the lap top)

If you're looking for a decent compact system to use at home and for small to medium size "gigs" I had very good succes with a pair of the lightweight Peaveys pr12" despite their price, size and weight they are
a VERY DECENT SPEAKER. Don't get me wrong you can pay twice as much and get twice the speaker buts it's all in what your needs are.
At home, small to medium sized parties or gigs and these are very capable speakers ....Powered they go for $720 for a pair add in a Mackie DFX12 and you have a VERY GOOD system for under $950.
Just want the speakers $300 for the pair and add a Behringer PMX2000 POWERED MIXER AMP for $300 and you have another choice for A COMPLETE SYSTEM AT $600... JUST ANOTHER OPTION.

For a great home mixer/amp that's easy to use, you really cannot go wrong with the AKJ7050 or AKJ7000. Plenty of power to annoy your neighbors, easy to use, good sound, and it's reliable. Get the best speakers that your budget or your conscience will allow.

Cheers

Of course for home use one may be limited to the volume you can throw out.But a rack system where you add each component in a neat and tidy fashion is ideal. As for what you put in your rack depends mostly on your budget but shop around a lot because prices can vary by 100% for the total package of your choice.Plus at the end of the day you have at least a pro looking package if only a good decent sound when nit picking what one can get at the top of the range.Even a cheap echo chamber can give a half decent set of speakers that depth for karaoke that makes a good sound.Anyone agree?
