you have to abide by a licensing agreement just to purchase these sets which includes Audits at any time they choose to. They are going to keep track of who buys what and if the songs appear on any other system than they list as legal owners you are guaranteed to be sued.

Sigh,
Quote: Unless you have a legally purchased original CDG disc to back up each and every song on your digital systems (referred to as 1:1), you are operating with illegal songs.
So SC is finally admitting that if you had a 1:1 disk ratio you are LEGAL, despite years of spreading misleading legal interpretations on the subject. Congress has not passed any new laws on the subject lately and there has been NO major court cases that have sorted out the matter recently.
They now sell a product with little interest to their past loyal customers who have bought hundreds of disks in the past, because as all these packages contain mostly redundant songs from disks they already own the disks for.
SC has a history of settleing out of court so the real pirates out there are just going to wait until they are handed a summons before they go purchase these sets.

May not be entirely legal...
FOR SURE
It is now legal to display the SC logo(trademark), as long as you meet their demands.(agree to submit to random audits at their request.)
DOUBT
Until we get the end user agreement we will not know exactly what is allowed. What if this is only a license to display the SC trademark??
If the ARTISTS/Song writers/copyright holders to the song have not given permission to allow the duplicate, they probably wont sue... But isnt that like buying a drive off of craigslist???

Add to the fact that songs off the SC8125 are available in the sets.

Danny, not doubting you ( you how I am about SC) but would like the source of info about having to agree to audits for the GEM series before I shoot off my big mouth..
I didn't see it on the GEM page. A little help here? Same with the Eagles inclusion.
As far as I know, The Eagles still haven't licensed anything for karaoke, so I'm wondering if SC is on the up and up with that. Where can I find a track listing?

there is a track listing that you can download on the page. For each series.
I took the list a bit further and imported it into fast tracks after a little manipulation of the data to get it in the order that fast tracks uses to import data. For ha has I typed in eagles in fast tracks' search engine and Hotel california came up amoung others.
As far as I know that when it was discussed there was going to be people still coming around to make sure you are on the up and up and if they see the new graphic logo that they are going to ask who you are and what company you work for. If your name or the company name does not appear in their list of who bought the set then they have a no brainer copyright issue.

I didn't see any Eagles songs off the 8125 listed in the set. There are 3 I believe that were listed that were not writtern by Gleen Frye or Don Henley that ARE listed - which were the holdbacks on the karaoke releases to begin with.
Ol 55
Please Come Home For Christmas
Love Will Keep Us Alive.
So the rumor that 8125 is available should be squashed now - but this shoots down Joe's concensus that there are no 'legal' downloads (ok maybe not 'downloads', but mp3g files) available for commercial use anymore.

This set might not get you sued by SC, but is it really legal?

When it comes to buying legal karaoke, we are expected to TRUST our suppliers.
We have to trust their word that they are obtaining and paying for the appropriate rights to the songwriters for each song made.
Of course nearly all of the companies claim they are legal in that respect, but clearly some are not, especially in the case of specific songs.
A bit of examination of the companies from which we can buy karaoke will show us some are almost certainly not legit. Some will need a considerable amount of scrutiny to determine if ALL of thier products are fully legit.
Of course none of us are able to do such a thourough investigation of our karaoke suppliers most of us neither have the necessary resouces, interests, or rights. So it all comes down to TRUST.
On the other hand it appears that the KIAA and SC does not reciprocate that trust even to a tiny extent when it comes to the people that buy karaoke products.

Just because 8125 had Eagles licensing issues, doesn't mean that this series has them too. Time has passed & it's a different product. They have obviously re-negotiated.
What I would like to know is how the OP found out about this page. There is no link to it from the main site that I could see.
Eagles on GEM
10202 -01 Already Gone
10107-05 Desperado
10108-12 Hotel California
10108-17 Life in the Fast Lane
10042-15 Love Will Keep Us Alive
10035-15 Ol' 55
10202-25 Peaceful Easy Feeling
10085-17 Please Come Home For Christmas
10089-14 Seven Bridges Road

The Eagles have publicly announced they are not allowing any Karaoke to be made in the US with their songs.
Of course some of "their" songs were not written by the Eagles so are not covered by this announcement.
A few older products may be covered by previous contracts with regards to Eagles songs, but I doubt they would flip so quickly after making such an announcement just a few months ago, and re-negotiate/allow new products. If the contract for SC8125 has expired, and it appears it has, the Eagles are not signing new ones.

Don Henley also publicly announced that The Eagles would never get back together until "Hell Freezes Over".
They have been known to change their mind.

SC you are almost there !!! Let me download individual tracks at a premium and I'll be a customer
Why would an established KJ who took the time to RIP all their CDGS go out and spend $3,000 for old songs ?
Do they believe that all the PIRATES will come running now to clean up their act ?
It won't take long before these MP3 files ripped at a great 320mps wind up on the open market for a HUGE discount.

Will I be buying? I'm very interested although that amount of money in one go would be a fairly tough pill to swallow. It could be me on a more level playing field with regard to having Sound Choice songs which at least my clientele definitely want. Perhaps these discs are being made by 'FSC Mediaplas' in the UK with the Sound Choice logo licensed to them, and Sound Choice being the only US importer. There are always legal loopholes around Don Henley.
I find it annoying that the per song prices are at the entry level more than it would cost me to buy a genuine CDG from another online retailer but oh well. There would be some time saving in only copying to HDD rather than ripping and also the CDG files should be error free!
At this point I'll start doing the cross check with my current rigs and see what the true cost is. I also suspect these are going to be burned discs and not pressed though this is not a big deal.

It comes down to about $4500 for 6000 songs, about 4500 of which I already have SC disks that I have purchased previously. Of the remaining 1500 I really am not interested in about half of them (or I have good versions from other manus).
So for me it comes to about 750 songs that I want for $4500 or about $6 a song.
From my point of view that is a horrible deal, and having purchased several hundred SC disks I think I have been one of their best customers.
Most established KJs with a lot of SC disks are going to be in a similar situation.
