It will sound much better than the headphone out on your computer.. Agree with this, night & day difference - however it is completely dependant on the rest of the system. A great sound card won't make a crappy system any better & then the headphone out would be more than adequate. I agree, but I wonder how many of the so called PRO AUDIO sound cards really are much better then TODAYS built in sound cards? - I use a American Audio Versaport and it does sound good but how much better than my heaphone out ? Will have to do a comparison
I know my Lexicon Alpha is a VERY noticeable improvement over my HP laptop media center that supposedly has a decent sound card built in. There is no comparison. That $79 little box sounds as good as the $200 M-Audio card I have in my desktop.

Thanks bringing up Elvis Bruce. I thought he was left out as #7 and a sighting before Michael..
Well Jam, your top 10, sorry nine, has now doubled. Any new statements as to what the over/under will be? I'll guess 35

To Lonnie - I'm interested in the Lexicon Alpha you mentioned. It looks like an external unit. Correct me if I'm wrong on the connection.
Lexicon USB cable Out to Laptop USB In. Laptop headphone out to Lexicon 1/4" Line In. Lexicon 1/4" Line Out to Mixer. Is this the right hook-up? Thanks Lonnie!

No!
USB from mixer to Alpha. 1/4" outputs on Alpha to mixer - set the playback device in you computer sound section & point it to the Alpha (USB device). Laptop headphone jack is bypassed entirely-nothing connected to it, the Alpha IS the sound card.
The 1/4" line in is for connecting external devices to record from like a cassette player or the likes to convert to (rip) to your computer.

Sorry, have to redo,
Laptop USB to Alpha USB (I stated USB from mixer in other post - not correct). 1/4" output on Alpha to mixer channel inputs.

Glad you clarified that. Here I thought I had been missing out on some sound!

Is that from Fruitcakes? I seem to recall that "they" were naked in the crosswalks!
As to singing naked.... do women also enjoy that they get to hold and show off their "mics"?

adding to the list
* Telling the karaoke host your in a band doesn't make you sing better
* Drawing naked pictures on your request slip doesn't turn me on
* Hacking up a loogy before you sing is gross - I can hear you. Barf!!!
* Always refer to the police as tonight's strippers when they walk through the bar.

Big shout out of appreciation to Lonman:
Lonnie, I took your advice and bought the Lexicon Alpha ($79.00) to replace my laptop headphone audio-out cable. What a night & day difference. My laptop audio now sounds clearer, richer, fuller, crisper and has more fidelity, need I say more? This was a lot better than the "mickey mouse" headphone mini-jack connector I've been using all these years. Thanks again!

Right on, now let's talk mixers & your sound will probably improve another 10 fold! Ok that's not fair not knowing what YOu actually have, it was an in general statement for many who think that the sound is good enough what they are actually missing!

Lonnie - Here’s my system on a permanent install @ the club/restaurant capacity of 300
4 QSC122i tops ceiling ledge level on all 4 corners, 1 QSC 181i sub
DBX DriveRack PX
BBE 882 Sonic Maximizer
DBX 2215 Equalizer
Aphex 107 Mic preamp
1- Shure ULXP Wireless Beta58
Shure U124D Wireless – dual beltpack dual Beta58 (very expensive)
BMB DEP3000 Mic Digital Echo/Reverb/Delay Processor
DBX 166XL Limiter Gate Compressor
2 - Pioneer PD-10G CDG player
Pioneer DVD V555 player (DVD/VCD)
HP Laptop – Sax&Dottie / External Lexicon Alpha Sound Card
Mixer – old school Numark DM1950 with built in Aphex Aural Exciter
(The best sounding Numark mix ever built. Limited issue, very rare. Stopped production after they had a falling-out with Aphex.
Very happy with the sound. I welcome your suggestion/advice. Anything to improve my sound I’m all for it. Thanks!

Nice setup, only thing I would replace is the BMB mixer. This would be your weakest link.
I am assuming (know what happens when that happens) you run the karaoke mixer into the Numark DJ mixer?

BMB is actually pretty good. All the mics are connected to this unit and out goes to the mixer, in a separate channel thus I can control and balance between the audio & vocals. I've used a VocoPro DA1000 mic mixer and they're nothing compared to this one. Do you have another brand I can try? Thanks.

Honestly I would upgrade to a mixer designed for pro/live use. Even a small Yamaha with built in effects like the MG124CX would be a better choice
http://www.zzounds.com/item--YAMMG124CX - but then you would really want to mix the music through the Yamaha as well.
The mixer (or any equipment as a rule) built and designed for karaoke, are oddly enough not great for pro karaoke.
You are probably getting good results with the other top end stuff in your chain, your mixer is actually holding back some untapped sound.
