How many have come across "Unusual" Karaoke venues? I dont mean small neighborhood bars, or festivals or church places, house parties or one time only events, I mean regular Karaoke shows at other than the usual bar venues.
Here's what I've come across: large freeway truck stop lounges, large casinos(Spirit Mountain Casino-the largest in Oregon), a fast food restaurant(Burgerville), and Denny's restaurants with Karaoke lounges in Canby and Albany, Oregon. These are all nightly Karaoke venues other than the usual bar setting.
What has anyone else encountered?

I had a Sunday night show in a bowling alley for awhile. It was a lot of fun because they had an absolute killer sound system that I plugged my mixer into. I had my rig and the singer set up right by the front desk of the bowling center.
The bowling center also had the cosmic bowl system with the fog, the lights that responded to the music, etc. but I never could convince the owner to fully embrace the concept of the bowling alley turning into a night club on a regular basis when we did karaoke. A shame because it was amazing on the few occasions where I got him to do it and being able to bowl while you waited to sing was a pretty nice way to wait.

There are two bowling alley shows in our area. We tried to get a kid's show going at a skating rink but it never happened.

I forgot about the bowling alleys---we have that too---one a Hollywood Bowl in NE PDX--has Karaoke both in its lounge and out on the concourse.

Actually the most unusual, strange, odd and different karaoke venue I've EVER BEEN TOO was this Indian Tribe owned and operated bar and lounge(Even moreso than the lounge at a Denny's Restaurant in Canby--ESPECIALLY THE ONE IN CANBY!!!!)
And thats not even to mention THE HEAD KJ they have there!!!!
They have a CIGAR SHOP and restarant and lots of DARTS leagues.
Its on the eastside of TACOMA, WASHINGTON.............Its called The T-BIRD......ANYONE EVER HEAR OF IT??????

Saw a sign at a Little Mexican place here in the Chicago burbs of karaoke at lunch. Thought it to be strange. Didn't last long. Didn't get the chance to see it at all either. That's the only time I've seen a lunchtime type deal.

I can verify it. I have been there twice, and may be there again the 29th (depending on what we do).

I KJ in a tourist town, but there are TONS of weird karaoke venues here. All of the following have karaoke here:
1) All of the DENNY'S in the county
2) All of the APPLEBEES in the county
3) All of the BENNEGINS (the corporate restaurants went under, but we have quite a few franchised ones that are still in business here)
4) Lots of family seafood restaurants, especially near the beach
5) Quite a few mexican restaurants
6) Quite a few asian restaurants, especially Viatmanese places
7) Most of the big dance clubs have karaoke on Sunday nights
However, the weirdest one I have ever seen:
We have an outdoor mall that used to have a stage set up on top of the movie theater overlooking the middle courtyard. They mostly used this stage for acoustic singers doing beachy music, but for a few months they tried out karaoke on Thursday nights. I never did it, but I can imagine being on a stage about 4-5 stories up overlooking a courtyard of 300-400 people would be both exilerating and a bit scary.
As a side note, this once-booming outdoor mall is now a ghosttown. One of the bands dropped a speaker while they were breaking down a show and it landed on a young child, causing severe brain damage. The band and the mall ownership were sued to kingdom come and foreclosed on the property. The new ownership bought it for about 30 cents on the dollar and moved a bunch of low rent stores into the vancant space. It is now a bit of a ghetto mall on a REALLY nice property 2 blocks from the ocean.

Too bad -- maybe I'll just go to bed early. I do have a 7:30am plane...
