This would be have to be tough to top...

Went to a Doobie Brothers/ Chicago concert tonight and Chicago raffled off a chance to get up and sing with them in front of thousands of people with the money benefiting Breast Cancer Research.

The guy and gal that won the bid had to take a stab at "If You Leave Me Now" -- the guy just kind of stood there looking awkward while the gal was out of tune and didn't support her tone, but the audience was very gracious to them both and clapped and cheered all the way to encourage them.

Do any other bands do this? I thought it was awesome that Chicago did this.

Don't know of any bands that actually have done this, but there was karaoke contest a few years back where the winner was the actual opening act for Diamond Rio, she performed 5 songs.

Tough song IMHO. Peter Cetera is one of those vocalists with a freakishly high voice (Sting, Steve Perry, Geddy Lee, etc). I don't know too many people that COULD have pulled that off.

Umm just about any open mic/open jam night? We have had Karaoke contests in our area where the winners have been given a short set to open for a National touring act at a festival or such. One of those they actually the singer sing with a local band rather than off Karaoke tracks. That's about the closest I've seen.

For those not familiar with Jimmy Buffett concerts, his band will often come out on their own and play either on the sidewalk outside or on a small stage outside of the main area before the show. I can't remember if they had a singing contest or a costume contest but the winner got to be the one to sing "Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw" on stage with Jimmy during the show. He seems to think of a lot of different ways to get out of having to sing that song one more time himself. One year he put the lyrics up on the staduim screens so the audience could sing it karaoke style but the words were in Japanese.

Coincidentally, referring to the fund raising for breast cancer line-of-thought, my wife and I attended a Lean Rimes concert this weekend. Lean autographed an acoustic guitar and it was auctioned off before the show. The autograph read "Thank you for helping us to save second base". Of course it took a minute for the sentiment to sink in to this old dry sponge. :?

So the winning bid got the guitar and a "Meet & Greet" for $1,500.00
