Reading the forum is about as useful as reading the manual. You should be able to find several old threads here discussing the cable hook-ups and where to start out with your knob positions. I predict you will learn more from 5 minutes of using the tool than 5 hours of reading on the Internet. It's one of those things that seems really obvious when you have your hand on the control and can hear the effect, even though when you read the instructions it may have been quite intimidating.

I'll assume the latter is what you take issue with. The limiter is a hard knee compressor with and extremely high ratio. The limiters on the Behringer compressors in particular are what most would classify as brick wall limiters (and the DBX isn't much better). The resulting modification to the wave form from the almost instant attack and extreme ratio comes about as close to squaring off the wave as you can without an actual clip. And as far as your speakers are concerned, its a far more aggressive change in the wave than they can reproduce so it might as well be a clip. So to that end this is why I make the statement that these limiters are essentially a clip (with essentially being the operative word).

Agreed 100%, you'll gain far more from reading posts on this forum from guys like Jeff and Lon than you'd ever get out of reading the manual. Read the manual too, but expect to get the bulk of your information from real people that use this stuff.

Not that you would want to get in a debate with them but what were they basing their claim on? That you wouldn't let them scream into your microphone? Pure idiots.
I've shut my mics off before. When they asked why I told them my mics are for singing. Anything else is increasing the odds that the mics will be shut off and the song cut.

They were basing their assessment of my kj skills on the fact that they said they've NEVER been given rules at a (karaoke show), so that made me the WORSE kj they've ever seen. I'm actually GLAD that they think I'm SOOOOO terrible, that way they won't come to my show!!! Honestly, I've never gotten up from my equipment to (discuss) things with anyone before these 4 jerks, but that night, I could have very easily lost my cool on these guys. That's why I thanked them when they called me the WORSE, maybe I'll never see then again.

Maybe I'm wrong here.
I always think that screaming into a mic. is going to treat the mic. like a spittoon.
Thus reducing sensitivity over time.
Yes I know they can be cleaned but it has to be the most bug ridden piece of equipment that you have.

Which is why I CRINGE at kj's that still think external foam windscreens are good - they are foam - foam absorbs moisture - spit is moisture, think about it the next time a kj hand you a mic with one of those on it and if you REALLY feel daring, actually touch it - even an hour into the show, I seriously doubt you will ever consider singing on a mic with a external foam windscreen on it ever again! These aren't for health reasons, they are for using outdoors to help prevent wind noise in the mic.

I guess that's why some KJs are busy when I'm on the mic, I'm not the drunk howler but when I'm doing hard rock it calls for it. I am most times respectful to pull the mic away from me especially when they actually have good monitors so I can hear myself. When there's nothing coming back at me and only speakers facing the audience, I cant tell how loud I am. But I'd take a dumb drunk guy with a bassier yell, than the high pitch Wooooo shrill of a bunch of plastered sorority girls.
