Borderline technical question but I'll start it here. Has anyone used the newer versions of winamp (last few months or so) and noticed that maybe a couple of times in a night the songs will skip a beat - generally when you are doing something else but not always.

I have a fast enough machine so it's not that.

It also doesn't seem to happen on non karaoke songs (but they don't get played enough for a representative sample).

I've found a site with all prior versions so will try one from a couple of years ago, just wondering if anyone else had upgraded reasonably recently and noticed.

Using Winamp with physysteme's cdg plugin(x2)

It happens to me, but only sometimes. I tracked it down to my wireless being on. If I disable wireless during the show, it doesn't do it. It's not just related to the new version, either, at least for me, and it only does it at certain venues, and not at others. I haven't figured out why, but I just disable my wireless when I hear it skipping and it takes care of it.

Yes! It had happened in the past to me, but also only when wireless was on.
Now that I keep the wireless turned off, Winamp has never skipped.

Wireless? maybe.... although both my machines have always had wireless on with no problems before.

Well, a couple of things to try... I'll let you know how the whole older versions thing goes.

It was like that for me as well. Absolutely no problems until I redid my comp and did a clean install of windows. Have no clue what is different, but something obviously is, because it never, ever happened before and it does now. I know it's not because of a different version of Winamp, because I use the same version I always have, installed from the file saved on my external hard drive.I can't even remember how I figured out to turn off the wireless, but it does solve the problem.

I have an old WinAmp for WinXP Laptop and crashes all the time. I will reboot but will crash again an hour or 2 later. A DJ ask me if the "visualization effect" is on. I said yes, I do because it's a cool interface visually. This was a graphical module that create psychedelic visual linked to the music on the corner of the screen.

He recommended not to use it, and viola! No more crashes. Now, I don't know if this has something to do with winamp & laptop crashing, but I never use it anymore. WinAmp never crashed ever since.

Submitted to go is caused by insufficient memory or a slow processor, but it has to be a problem in your case. Something seems to impose the system to other works, such as Winamp, must end. All I can say now is to run all the diagnostic standard.

Nothing at all to do with insufficient memory or a slow processor. Winamp can be run on old junkers with less than half the memory and processor speed of today's computers without issues.

Sure, if nothing else is running.

But if you've got 47 different processes running simultaneously, or for whatever reason didn't notice that under Windows 7 you accidently had 19 instances of WinAmp running at the same time, it can drag down even the fastest CPU's.

In fact, about a month ago I was at another persons karaoke show and their playback would occasionally sputter. She knew me from coming to my shows occasionally, but I didn't mention i'd noticed the sputtering until she asked me if i'd come take a look.

Sure enough, she's running Windows 7 and when I ALT+TAB'ed to the desktop I could see she had 19 instances of WinAmp running.

Same thing can happen if you have lots of other things open on the desktop.. surfing the web via wireless, etc.

WinAmp itself can be run on some pretty old hardware.. but if that hardware is taxed in addition to WinAmp.. like running some new virus protection/firewall software, multiple instances of applications running, numerous processes running.. things can get chuggy fast on even the fastest hardware.

Except that wasn't the case with the OP.

Haha.. yeah.. because they said they experienced the issue, "generally when you are doing something else but not always."

Unless you assumed the 'something else' they were doing was painting their toenails.
