I thought I posted this earlier but isn't showing up, so here goes again.

I just got JBL EON 515 speakers. I can't wait to try it out. I was told by a friend of mine who's a KJ that he heard that the 515s have lower volume than the EON 15s. He said someone did a side by side comparison with the same equipment and EON 15s gave out more power. I have doubts since the original EON 15s are 250 watts and the 515s are 450 watts.

Has anyone heard about this? I am about to put these EON 15s on sale and was curious about it. Thanks.

Well power isn't all the specs to look at, SPL levels & efficiency are also other aspect, I suppose if the originals were more efficienct & could provide a higher SPL than the new ones, then yes I can see the lower power speaker being able to be louder, however I have my doubts as well.
The original EON15 was only 180 watts BTW. The EON15 G2 were 400 watts. The originals had a max SPL rating of 127db, the G2 SPL was 129db. The new 515 are also rated at 129 SPL. All close but doesn't lead me to believe the original was louder.

Speaking from personal experience, the original 180W EON's (the grey ones) are absolute junk across the board. I would tell anyone to stay away from them. The G2's weren't really much better although they were more powerful. The 515's I haven't used but I've heard are supposed to be better. I can't see any way that the original EON's would have better output than the latest generation. When I had the original 15's I struggled for level all the time using them in small clubs. The G2's were a very noticeable improvement in that regard.
