The OP mentions he realized the bass was missing and thats just the way it goes.

Well, I didn't quite say it was "missing", just not strong as the Yamahas, which like you said, is to be expected from a plastic cabinet vs a wooden one. That's where eq-ing comes in.

When I used them at my gig on Saturday, the speakers were close to the rear walls, which re-enforces bass frequencies and also I used a BBE Sonic Maximizer with the Low Contour controls turned up a little which really pumped up the bass. The highs don't really need much if any processing since they're so crystal clear already.

The true test was when I started playing some dance music, the music was cranking and the dance floor was filled and people were loving it. And the Behringers held their own and did an admirable job.

But once again, it's all very subjective. For example, Lonman recommends the JBL Eons. Letitrip thinks they're garbage. So, who do you listen to? Like I said, all very subjective. We all don't hear things in the same way. What sounds good to one person may not sound good to the other.

Be very careful with this approach. Trying to drive too much low end from your rig can lead to damage. First, as we're discussing in another thread, pushing your full-range speakers to produce frequencies that they can't reach or even digging for more levels in areas where the response drops off can lead to overheating and damage. Also, since it takes more power to drive lower frequencies, you can easily drive your amp into clip without even seeing a clip or peak indicator on your console. So be very careful, an EQ is a very powerful tool but it is not designed to make up for design limitations in your equipment.

If you invest $6,000 in music, board and amp, why would you try to save $100.00 on speakers or mics? It makes no sense at all, but I hear people here advocating it all the time.

For me, like I said in my opening post, it wasn't about trying to save a buck, it was more about trying to save my back.

I wasn't poo-pooing your speaker choice. I haven't heard them. I have been known to run Behringer speakers myself, and own a couple.

What I was doing was rogering the trade-offs thing. Tradeoffs are inevitable -- I do them myself. I don't use S115V speakers in my mobile setup either -- I use PR10 and PR-Sub to save weight. I think all three cost me $480, which isn't much more than your setup. I had listened to the PR series and thought they were decent if not the best. I didn't want to pay $1000.00 for the speakers I thought were better in the same weight range. I like how my setup sounds, but a lot of people will say "the Peaveys are junk".

The difference between the options I saw was $500.00. In the scheme of $6000.00, say, that's nearly 10%. I think it makes sense as a choice. Am I getting poorer sound? Probably. But I judge that it is good enough.

But then we get to mics. People want to put markedly inferior mics up and save $80.00., which is 1.5% of the system price. This has a huge impact on the show and sound, both from perception of quality (the user handles the mic every time they sing) to sound, to impact on gain structure because of feedback. This *doesn't* make sense to me, particularly when it is clear that the long term cost is going to be about the same when you buy a more durable microphone.

Very good advice. If and when I use EQ, I do so very slightly and in moderation. So, the best advice is not to have to use it at all but since most systems can benefit from a little EQ, use it wisely.

With eq's it's better to make slight cuts rather than over boosts.

Probably would have been more money to repair than to buy the Peavey (I am no expert in the repair of the speakers, to say the least). I have tried almost every type of Behringer product made I am a masochist that way - and the only thing I recommend are the power amplifiers.
