Hi all just an enquiry I currently run 2 EV SX300 speakers in stereo from the EP2500 amp which is im sure 500 watts at 8ohm .
What I was wondering is as the program for the speakers are 600 with a 1200 peak would i be better running bridged so they would be 4ohm and get the 1200 per speaker and if so what would I need as ive only used the speakon cables.
secondly if later I changed the SX300s for something like the EV ZX5s would this provide enough power this way, only an enquiry as ive no chance of affording them right now .
Thanks in advance as always
Roy

I have the same speakers, and feed them 500 watts @ 8 ohms from a Yamaha P5000S.
600 is the RMS rating for the speakers. 1200 is the peak.
****You DO NOT want to feed them 1200 watts each!!!**** The peak rating is the MOST it can take without distortion and driver damage. A 500 watt amp DOES NOT feed speakers a max of 500 watts. That is the RMS rating. Amps are dynamic in the power they feed the speakers!
Think of the 500 watts as the average your amp will send to the speakers....but it is dynamic! It will send peaks and valleys to the speakers in accordance to the audio material you feed it, and could produce up to a 1000 watt peak without distortion (think a SCREAMING singer or a loud feedback loop).
Ideally, you want to feed them 600 watts, but 500 watts isn't going to hurt these speakers unless you jack these things up volume wise or boost the bass out of control, which I hope you are not doing to a 12" woofer anyway!
So, the EV300s would like both a little more juice and a little more high quality amp to sound their best, but you are not hurting them with your current amp. Stick with the Behringer until you can afford another.
Once you can afford something a little higher quality, look into buying a QSC PLX1804. That amp will feed it the proper 600 watts/speaker @ 8 ohms, is a better amp than the comparable Behinger spec wise, and weighs only 13 pounds. I've done quite a bit of research, and that's my next amp for my EV300s.

Connecting 2 8 ohm speakers creates a 4 ohm load. What does that do to the power rating, if they are rated 600 watts program at 8 ohms, it will actually double & be 1200 watts at 4 ohms. That amp bridged is going to push 2400 watts into 4 ohms - you will more than likely pop the speakers!
Leave them set up in the stereo config!

Thanks on the info guys was only an enquiry .knew I was slightly under powered ,I know by not alot just thought I could get more with out shelling out more money, make the most with what I have but didnt think it through enough.
plus reading around a few peple saying it may not be that stable in bridged 4ohn although most what ive seen have been on about subs in 4ohm bridged.

It should be stable in 4 ohms as it's listed in the specs as such. Unless real world users have different results. But it's just too much power in bridge mode for those speakers. It's not underpowered by much so I wouldn't worry about that combo. Might consider adding a sub (powered or sub/amp combo) to relieve trying to push the bass through the 12's though.

yep i know Lon its on the shpping list when I can as one of the gigs I do i,im not sure if its because its a low roof and solid floors but I seem to lose most the bass there where as other gigs I have plenty ,well enough that you would expect from the 12" speaker.
But not sure of what would be suitable as yet as im limited for space as only use an estate car or station waggon in most of your cases.

Personally i'd opt for an 18" with a 12" cabinet. But that's just me.
