That's basically what I've been doing. Just thought there might be another way. I haven't done it yet, but I think I'm going to put together a MySQL database and then create a couple of reports to sort in various formats and then I can just print from that.

Basically just formatting issues that I've gotten tired of doing over and over. I like to make my A,B,C...etc headings a littler taller than the listings so they stand out better and every time I run a sort after adding a new disc I have to go back and re-size my rows. Maybe I'm a little OCD :?:

Books?..... c'mon it's 2010.... get with the program....

I haven't used a printed paper book in 6 years...

(kills muchn fewer trees you know.)

What software are you using for your Kiosk?

I scored one of those bar top touch screen games from an auction a few months ago dirt cheap. It's nothing more than a Pentium 4 PC inside, and I thought that would be cool to do a kiosk kind of thing so people can search or browse through my collection and either print slips there, or send the requests over wireless network to my DJ laptop.

Closest thing i've found that might do this is a free ad on to PCDJ

I've downloaded their demo.. but have yet to mess with it.. mostly because I have so much already invested in Virtual DJ and before that, an ancient version of Tricerisoft I bought when I first went digital many, many moons ago.

Any advice or suggestions you could make regarding your kiosk system would be greatly appreciated!

One thing nice about the FastTrack is, it allows you to create web page with just a few clicks. I publish my entire song list on my web page so most of my regulars will check it out online and write down the songs they want to sing and bring it to the show.

However, books are essential in my show. If I used a kiosk, there would be a line of people waiting to use it while someone is browsing for a song. If that one person takes too long, then everyone else become impatient and gets antsy. I saw this even with books on those rare occasions when we have more people than the books. People are waiting to see the books to sign up. This happens mostly in the beginning.

I think the best solution is a running kiosk on tablets in the future when tablets are cheap enough so I can have several of them. For now, books are the best solution for me.

I use a Kiosk and Chip's software (Karaoke Songfinder) for a while now, and I have never looked back ever since. It is a little bit more up front (unless you're getting a cheap used touchscreen system) but in the end it pays off. I haven't printed a book in a year (which would cost me around $15-$20 each) and will not ever have to print books again.

Plus my regulars love it! I never had a problem with long lines of people. They usually see if someone's at the screen and if, they just wait a minute or two to walk up there.

With a touchscreen it is recommended to have it in eye sight. Not so much because of the drunks, but people sending requests with 2 or more different/fake names.

One thing to mention though. Karaoke Songfinder is a 16-bit program. Means the receiver program won't run under any 64-bit operating system, which is kind of said. Right now I use a laptop with Windows 7 64-bit and Windows XP Pro installed and use the XP partition for my shows only. And unfortunately there's no update planned either. :(

I want to create one kiosk station with Chips software, already have the computer & touch screen, just need to be able to afford the software now. I will still continue to print books however as we do get a hard core karaoke crowd that like to look through the books (my preference as well) but will have one for those who already know what they want just to electronically send it.

I found that page about a year ago. I sent the guy an eMail asking if the software was still in development, and asking about touchscreen compatibility.

Copyright at the bottom of the page is 2005.. guy never replied to my eMail.. made me a bit hesitant to fork over $169 to a website that doesn't appear to have been updated in 5 years.

Other than that.. the software looks like it would fit the bill for my needs. At first glance, it looks a bit expensive, but when I print books (I get the pages lamanated and have them spiral bound with clear front cover) they cost close to $20 a book.

Of course I have to wonder how many people would shun the kiosk and ask, "Don't you just have a book I can look at?"

I also use FastTracks. It is awesome. Probably the best. And if you have CompuHost, the integration is seemless. A great combination but either one can be used alone.

Me too. It's a one-two punch!

I've used Music Book Deluxe for years. Imports csv files, exports pdf files and so much more.... 250,000+ title listing by all major manufacturers, frequent updates (subscription). It has many useful book format options for Master Lists, updates etc.

I have just submitted a revised disc listing for two Singing Machine discs and they are already being pushed in the updates.

The program will let you choose your discs without having to import any info.

I am in the process of adding the new Sound Choice Gem Series to my listings. I imported the csv file that Sound Choice included with the discs and I've used the "List Assist" function to correct the spellings and format choices (truncated artist and song title names on the actual files). I have now rechecked and renamed the listings within the "book" file and am very pleased with the results. I am about to attempt to use the plug-in "Karaoke File Renamer" to bring all the file names into compliance with the listing in the book so that my hosting program will have the ability to export a correctly formatted song list.

Anyone else using this?
