Just out of curiosity, are there any songs, genres, singers (who should remain nameless), etc. that any of you make a habit of staying away from their subs as though it were the plague and why? I have noticed quite a disparity in comments/views among different songs and was trying to get a real feel for the cross-section of listeners here.

I am more inclined to go to songs that I know first. The genre's don't really scare me...or head me in another direction.

I try to listen to songs that I don't know, but usually head to the familiar first. :)

Extremely interesting question from DyingMoose

I have a problem commenting on the opera, for the simple reason that I am not educated enough. There’s one place I do not try to avoid, but find it difficult to say something.

When I look at the subs, I try to start of with the one I stopped with last night. I do not have a preference in people or genres, but surely there are people (1 or 2) that I do avoid. Also, I see there are people that sub and never comment on my subs. If that’s the case, then I will not comment on theirs. It’s all about give and take.

If I comment on your sub, and you never reply then what’s the point??

I think if you sub, you should have the courtesy to answer to people who comment you, even if it’s just a simple Thank You! There’s something in this world known to few people as common courtesy, and without that, we’ll just be going down-hill all the way.

Yeah very interesting question! Everyone probably have their own standard. Having the common courtesy is important with everything you do in life. How ever I do not think that we should be too hardcore about it and cut some people slack sometimes. First of all..in order to comment and listen to all the songs that are submitted every day here you would have to spend half the day doing so, there are simply too many songs to listen to on a daily basis. There for you have to be selective with your time and who/what you listen to!

Second..We all have our favorite genre's of music we listen to as well, so that shouldn't be taken too personal either. If you submit Rap,Opera, techno, heavy-metal etc on this website I think you will get very few responses and generally lower score, simply because 75% of the people here only listen to, comment and submit country songs. It is just natural though, that is just the way it is, we can not change peoples tastes.

Given the limited time I have to surf these days I try to listen to people who have commented on my subs. I wish I had time to listen and comment on all of them....but my husband pulled me out of early retirement and forced me back to work :newlol: .

I also wanted to say that I spent a lot of time the other night commenting on everyone's Show Tunes and when I went back to see if anyone responded and all my comments were gone. I wanted all of you to know that I enjoyed everone of your subs and had a lot of fun listening. I don't know what i did but I'll be more careful from now on.

You guys are all wonderful and It's been fun exploring differnt genres with you so far

Prior to coming here, I never listened to much of anything but country & bluegrass music. A little old rock too, and what little pop music I'm forced to listen to because I have 4 kids. (lol)

But, like Allstar, I try to go down the list one song at a time and listen & comment on everybody. I see too many songs only get 3 or 4 comments, and that just isn't right, with so many listeners here, so if I see a song with a low number of comments I try to give those priority.

But, back to your main question- I never knew what "showtunes" really were- at the beginning of the week, I was thinking "Giligans Island" would qualify. And, I knew "of" disco, but went to a web site to find out what some disco songs were, cause I didn't know.

I have now listened to Hip Hop, Opera, all kinds of music. This site has broadened what I listen to enormously- (what I listen to -NOT what I sing, mind you) *~LOL~*.

I get more excited to listen to stuff I'm familiar with, but I would never look over anything or pass it by because it's an unfamiliar genre. I just have to be honest & tell those people in my comment if I don't know of the song. But I can tell if their on key/in good timing/blah blah blah- so I'll leave a comment.

ALOT of people comment to me on Bluegrass songs that I KNOW don't usually listen to it, so it goes both ways.

Did Blue make any sense? Gotta go have that first cup a coffee- I'm still half asleep ya'll.

Well, personally, I try to avoid anything subed by AllStar at all costs!! LOL!! I just love razzin him! I'm not really sure why! LOL! Probably because he's a good egg with a good sense of humor and I know he can dish it out as well!

On a serious note, I try to listen to as many as possible and I could care less what the genre is, as I enjoy all kinds of good music! I can enjoy a good country song and follow that with with a beautiful, classy show tune from Emma!

It is just impossible to listen to all of them however, so I usually find myself making sure that I comment on people who have taken the time to comment on mine. Unless they didn't like mine, in which case I'll avoid them like the plague! JUST KIDDING....COME ON...LOL!

I have noticed a few that sub all the time yet never comment on anyone elses subs. Those people, I will never comment on. I don't care how good they might be. Like Allstar stated, that's just plain rude. Also, people who don't even bother to to say thank you to someone that took the time to listen to and comment on their songs, are also rude. I think that was covered in common sense 101.

I really enjoy listeing to all music. I do find that my time is so limited though..I listen to some before I go to work in the morning and then in the evening, but boy if I miss a day...or like this weekend have company for a couple of days..there is no way I can catch up..I feel real bad about that. In that case , I usually go to the genres I like best and then try and catch a few others.
I feel bad that I don't have time to comment on every song..There are so many good ones out there that I know I miss. :(
I do, like most of you, tend to go to those that reply and comment on mine...In appreciation of them taking time to stop and listen and comment.

I've wanted to add my comments to this thread since I first saw it, but first I had to figure out how to join the forun! LOL
I find myself spending way too much time on the computer as it is, my business gets neglected and I have to fight off the other 4 family members for computer time! LOL, so basically, when I log on to this site, I go back 2 or 3 days and start with the songs that have only 2 or 3 comments regardless of genre. Then if I have time, I look for songs I know and like and listen to them too. I try to pay attention to those who regularly comment on my songs, if I find I've missed them I'll go to their profile and listen from there. It's a little hard to keep track of, I just recently found the page where all my comments are listed. Before that, I had to search every song to see if I'd commented! It was time consuming. I don't actively avoid any genres except rap, because it offends me. I'm not a big fan of country or opeera, but I can appreciate it, and if I stayed away from country all the time I'd only have a coulpe songs to chose from! LOL Besides, sometimes the country tunes suprise me, and I often like them better than the original. Also, if I submit, I definitely stay to comment on at least 5 songs. It's only fair! That said...I really have to get to work! LOL :P

For those who care... here is my input.

I generally like all kinds of music. Even some Rap! (Oh my Gawd!)

I try to listen to everyone - but as many of you know - I am extremely busy*. I do not always comment (first, I feel that I am not qualified - being an average singer at best & 2nd not having submitted a song... yet)

I do try to listen and comment on new singer's. They seem to get the fewest amount of comments. I also look for songs that I am not familiar with. I figure these will actually demonstate to me the singer's ability. (I have nothing to compare it too!) Then I listen and comment (at times) to our regulars - Hey if I haven't commented on your submissions at least once I am very sorry - truly! There just doesn't seem to be enough time in my day. If you really want me to, drop me a note and I will be ceratin to... :) {Like my opinion matters anyway}

* Between working on this site and several others, as a web designer - I also am a full-time Real Estate Agent and a part-time Fugitive Recovery Agent (Bounty Hunter) I just don't seem to have as much time as I want or need.

:!: Hey, Anyone have some connections for that invention of HG Wells, ya kno' the one - The Time Machine
;)

I listen to all kinds of music, but (please don't kill me) don't care for most of the 'newer' country music. When I say all kinds, I mean as long as I understand the words - some typesof 'music' fall into this category (gangster rap, hardcore punk, speed metal, a few others). I prefer Jazz, classical and electronic but not a lot of singing in the music I listen to most of the time (while I'm working). I actually rely on my fiance to tell me what's current so I can make sure to add it to my libary (doh!).

I tend to sing almost anything as well. I know there are some things I just can't sing (yet and maybe ever!) and don't try. I tried, er, butchered, 'One Night In Bangkok' once. I won't make that mistake again. I've tried some Sinatra but it's not in my range. Lots of songs I really love I can't sing (like Runaway - Del Shannon) and don't try. I tend to pick songs I can make a good effort with and go from there.

As for commenting, I just realized how to get into the Singer's Showcase and am just starting to listen to others. I don't know if I'll comment, sometimes I'm just impressed and have nothing to say other than 'Awesome!' and I don't think that's a sufficient response for some of the stuff I've heard. Since I've just submitted I'll try to listen to a few songs a day and try to respond, but work always gets in the way of my karaoke and Miata habits.

HOLY SMOKES PHILL!!!!! Woooooaaaah!!! I guess my excuse is lame after that! I've been busy with "home improvements" and stuff... it's been quite a long process... but I try to stop in for a visit when I can... these sites can become quite an addiction... (that's probably another thread! )

I enjoy most all kinds of music ...... depending on my mood... I don't care for offensive stuff. It's kind of unnerving to be walking down the street and hear a stereo blasting from a car and every other word is f*** this and f*** that .... man, how times have changed!
:?

I have always said I like anything opera, but moose you have changed my mind...I did always also say that if I were ever subjected to it I may learn to appreciate it...You have done that for me...and I will always be around looking for your next tune...

I really love music...I listen to anything and everything as much as I can...I am getting behind here at the house since I found this site...There is just so much here to listen to and enjoy that I find I keep walking back to the puter room to hear a few more songs...

So keep em comin folks...sing, sing, sing....who's up next?
