Most of my MM stuff is that moldy oldie/doowop/greybush stuff.
Are they even still making discs?

No they went out of business due to their poor quality.

Other than perhaps some of their oldies disks, they are awful on balance. In fact, many of their tracks I would call unsingable. So name 5 of the 'many' that you consider 'unsingable' from the MM catalog. I'm bound to have at least one so I can see what passes as 'unsingable' to your highly tuned and discriminating ear.
I file 'em and forget 'em, as I gave up singing MM tracks three or four years ago. I see them inflicted on others frequently, too, as my favorite show is littered with them. In fact, it's easier to remember their good tracks because they stand out as unusual. (They do have one good George Strait -- Carrying Your Love With Me.)
If it's going to be MM, I simply pick another song. It's that bad. I have about 12 of their disks bought before I knew better, and those are now completely out of my collection.
Just about everyone here knows that MM is awful stuff, except for their old doowop. If you can't tell that, well then -- I will let that speak for itself.

ALmost any of MM pop/rock - classic to new/rap are unuseable for the most part. Some of their Elvis is pretty passable, haven't heard alot of the doowop stuff. Alot of their country is passable as well, the rest I had to find other brands or not list them at all they were so bad.

Well.. looking through the MM stuff that I have.. it all seems to be in the oldies/country genre.. and none of it sounds any worse than your garden variety Legends Series stuff.
But hey.. different strokes for different folks.
If singers at my shows don't like the version of the song I have, well.. then don't sing it.
It's not like i'm the only KJ in the world that doesn't play patrons personal discs.

Music Maestro and SGB are top tier???
Wow. Someone needs a hearing test.
I agree, SGB and MM have the odd gem, and some are passable (barely), but certainly NOT top tier!
I agree, that you have to be a pretty terrible singer to not be ABLE to sing along with them, but why would want to?
I would not use the term "un-singable", instead, I would substitute it as "un-listenable". Some of that stuff seriously hurts my ears no matter how much I try to EQ it.
In fact, I'm like the others. I'll pass them over if I have anything else (except Nutech. Nutech is the bottom of the bottom!) to play. Except of course, the odd gem.

Oh, and for the record, I'll bypass Legends if I have another choice as well. They are also only passable in my books.

It's time that we became uber-efficient with our synchronised third-generation innovation. We need to cascade memos about our millennial strategic paradigm shifts. We need a more blue-sky approach to functional digital contingencies. At base level, this just comes down to ambient logistical flexibility. Now can't we all just get along?

I thought they had gone out of business due to the piracy that was going on (even) back then.

The SAVP discs were originally Nikkodo. I guess Nutech bought them out and just put their logo to the discs. Nikkodo was very synthy (is that even a word?), but they were singable. Nutech, on the other hand, was/is just very cheap quality.

i just can't help but wonder when those of you who don't have a life will get one?
who am I referring to?
those who must incessantly post on the same topics.
what topics?
1a. your attitude as a kj about singers wanting their own discs played
1b. your attitude as a singer about having your own discs played
2. your attitude as a kj about what is an acceptable manufacturer's product to buy/keep in your library
3. your attitude about about certain equipment, particularly microphones
4. the use of or lack thereof of bumper/filler music
5. when is or isn't the rotation sacrosanct?
6. the duplicate songs that exist in the typical illegal library while never questioning how many dups appear in the typical legal library
7. what must be lacking at illegal shows: quality equipment, hosting skills, respect for the rotation and the like and that it must be all about the quick buck
In my opinion, these post usually reflect:
a. Lack of respect for the opinions of others
b. Short term memory loss
c. Inability to consider there is more going on in the world than can be experienced through your limited existence.
d. The absence of quality analytical skills
Example:
Statements from those who insist that they know what manufacturers should be embraced and which should be shunned
I had provided this forum years ago with the knowledge that there is a 7 day a week karaoke venue that has an extensive library that is comprised of over 85% Music Maestro. Nonetheless, there are those who still put down the product. If the product has been working for the customers of this venue for so many years, what does your or my opinion of that product matter?
AND it may also be worth keeping in mind that someone hosting the same gig at the same place for 11 years may have 11 years of experience satisfying that particular crowd but that same host might fail elsewhere. And sometimes 11 years of experience is the equivalent of having 1 year of experience 11 times.

The powerful and almighty Oz errrrrrr TOVMOD has spoken!!!!
It has been decreed that henceforth, there shall be no more talk on this forum of :
1a. Singers expecting KJs to play their discs
1b. KJs not wanting to play other people's discs
2. What is acceptable vs unacceptable Manufacturer's brands
3. Acceptable vs non acceptable equipment used at a show... especially Mics
4. The use/non use of Bumper Music at a show
5. Rotations
6. Talk of Duplicate songs in a Pirated Library
7. What is lacking at everyone else's shows
AND, ABOVE ALL.....
Quit DISSING Music Maestro.... It has worked out just fine and dandy at this one show that TOVMOD knows of.
And also remember, experience is only a state of mind and not a number.
Gee, is there anything else left that we can talk about???? Ooooo Oooooo Ooooooo (in my best Arnold Horshack (sp?) voice)....
How's the weather????

Woohoo, now Cue has TovMod in his cross-hairs. Man this thread just gets more and more fun. We ought to bring in a play-by-play guy for this action.
Cue, seriously, sorry about whatever large hairy organism flew up your rump but man take a deep breath and relax.

Hey.. I was rooting through my Music Maestro stuff last night (most of it is country and oldies) trying to find some really awful rock stuff.
Tracks like CCR's Born On The Bayou stand out because that signature intro sounds like they tried to do it on a piano or maybe MIDI.. but the rest of the track was passable.
Rock This Town by the Stray Cats didn't have that big Gretsch jangle sound i'm accustomed to hearing on the original track, either.
I also noticed the guide vocals were kind of fast.
Maybe not top tier, but they're certainly not unsingable, either. I'd put them on par with the likes of the Legends discs.
But the fact that we're even having this discussion just proves my point about the serious/anal retentive karaoke types.
The very thought of not being able to play their own discs or getting bumped by a new arrival makes 'em blow a gasket. Suggest that you take a break from the karaoke to play 10 minutes of dance music so people can dance, and they come totally unglued.
People come to a bar to cut loose.. let their hair down.. have a few drinks.. relax.. and have a good time.
Maybe some of you should try that sometime.

No, to me it proves you have no ear. If you are from the "good enough for karaoke crowd", fine. We all know how to find crappy karaoke shows with hosts that don't care about sound. We get that they exist. Most of us don't care to go to them, though, so you are happily insulated from us.
Oh by the way. We don't tend to be noticeable, because if you are like me, I find a show like yours and just don't come back. I never stick around long enough to be your problem.

I think I'm beginning to see the big picture here when it comes to the Cheese Man. Since it has become obvious that he can't tell the difference between good and bad music tracks; he probably can't tell the difference between good singing and bad singing. That is probably why he thinks that someone should be able to sing to any track because his own singing is probably so bad that for him, it really doesn't matter what track he sings to. It's going to suck no matter what brand of karaoke he is singing along with so why should anyone else care which track gets used. A better track will not help Cheese sound any better so he thinks the same thing applies to everyone else. Cheese is just a jealous guy, deep down inside, because those "anal retentive" singers make him feel inept. For some reason, He doesn't want to see certain people at his show enjoy themselves as much as possible. To him, these people are just TOO NEEDY. He just doesn't want to see them at their best. He'd rather see them stumble over a version that they are not familiar with. WHAT A GREAT KJ !!! (TIC)

Have you ever considered the possibility that maybe the same topics keep coming up because
1. Not everyone has been on this board as long as you might have been, so how is someone supposed to know it has been discussed before
2. Subjects that keep getting repeated might actually matter to the poster
Now I agree that some people could be a lot more polite about expressing their opinions but other than that, I would say if a person doesn't like the topic, they don't HAVE to participate.
respectfully,
-James
