Ok... thanks for putting up a definition for us AllStar. Makes sense to me (and that was what I was afraid of)

WOW..I didn't realize how hard it was going to be to find someting in this genre to sing. It seems my knowlede in the area is more limited than I thought. Some of the songs I thought I knew I can't sing anything but the chorus. It has been fun researching and trying some of these song and I hope to find something soon.

Can't wait to hear fome you all and see how creative you can be in ths genre.

Well, I always incorporated movie themes into the "showtunes" category. Most aren't that familiar with the Broadway to movie transition.

I would think that a common appeal to most folks would be to have the movie themes/tunes work into this category!

I'm sure loving this theme of the week thing. Its tough, but fun to limit yourself to one genre.

Knightshow....movie soundtrack songs can be next...GOOD IDEA!!

SingingFool...Nothin' wrong with opera - if you can sing it - GO FOR IT!!!

Since the idea was brought up, why not have an OPERA/Classical theme week (as an experiment). Who knows what could possibly happen (hehehehe)?

I'll be out of state from Sunday August 22 until Thursday September 2, so two things come to mind

1. Opera is a wonderful genre to do next week! I'll strongly second OwN's opinion.

2. Nobody has to listen to my subs for that time!

Have fun, boys and girls, but............I’ll be back with a vengeance! And then you will have to listen to my subs again! :rotflmao:

AllStar and OWN - So thoughtful of you to weigh in on next week's genre, even tho you won't be here. I think we should allow 'make-up' sessions for next week's genre, especially if its opera week.

What would be considered Opera or classical?

I am not sure what songs would fall under this category, or if I can even get backings LOL!

It sure would be fun to try though :)

Jeeeeeez...I had a hard enough time with Show Tunes. I really REALLY don't like opera. It's like fingernalils ona chalk board to me. I have a lot of respect for people who can do it....but I think I would be pushing it way too far to even try to find something I know.....let alone get my voice to do that. It probably wouldn't be pretty at all. If it's Opera next week I'll try, but OMG you guys will be in for some creative ways to say "you sounded great wannabe" without gagging all through my sub.

I'm not too sure about opera, I can try to give it a shot in a few days when I'm feeling better from this stupid cold I've contracted...

I had another idea maybe for the future, how about duets? You can pm the partner you'd like to do a duet with and send the song back and forth til you get it done.....does this sound like too much work? I don't know, maybe some people wouldn't know how to do this....just a thought.

I'd like to suggest 50's songs for next week. Most people could find someting in that genre.

Ok...now there's an idea I can get behind '50s music. Are we talkin any genre --- as long as its from the '50s? I was thinking 'Rock and Roll' but didn't know if thats what you intended.

I think any song that is from that era would qualify. That would give us a broad range to choose from yet still limit our choices. Some of these yougsters may have to work a little to find something.......Just a suggestion. Anyone else have any ideas...I'm just trying to get past the opera thing......that really scares me.
