I use a 13" CRT TV set, and I use a splitter to hook into one of the Bar's TV sets. My set is on a TV Stand.

I use little old-school 13” color TVs, set on the floor in a milk crate tilted up, which is really kinda hokey, and I want to do something better.

May I please ask a question sort of relevant to this topic.
Does anyone use wireless to send to the monitor.
Something I am thinking of doing with a multicore sound / dmx run.
Is it reliable...
Video senders are at a good price right now.
Are there any down sides?

I used to use a system called the Rabbit years ago. It was nice to have as I could just purchase extra recievers & leave them set up in the club with a switch on the tv, just go in & flip the switch & video is set.
Upside - no having to run cables each time
Downside is you generally need a clean line of sight. When I had the transmitter low, anyone walking around would give interference with the video feed, if you can get it higher than the crowd, it was generally fine. Also many claim to go through walls or around corners (I know mine did) but found this to be unreliable as well.

When I lived in England, I used a video sender to send the Sky signal upstairs to the bedroom TV. Straight line distance was maybe 8 metres. It was very hit and miss. I'd often have to change frequency, and if the neighbours had their microwave on, forget it.

I prefer to have the karaoke going to the big "sports bar" screens, because I create CDG slides with interesting pictures, during the instrumental sections. Some of them contain very subtle jokes about the songs, and in one of them, you can even see a picture of my favorite KJ's face, a tribute that I did for him. I also like to be able to sing without my glasses, but I can't read the words unless the screen is really big.
I did a custom version of "Les Consonnes", a song about a French girl who is having a hard time in school, and the lyrics appear as if being written in script with white chalk, on a blackboard. If it is not done on a big screen, the words can't be read at all, not that anyone reads French anyway, but I think it's a cool effect.
So, I have to answer the same thing that I would have answered if I had not realized that this question was about screens...size is very, very important, but of course it is how you use it that makes things fun.

I use a 13" monitor for the singers and use large club TV's for the crowd to follow along. I share the gig night with another KJ who uses a 26" LCD for the singers. I'm backed up against the wall just to read it (is soooo Big!) However, he has refused to add the club TV hookup to his system and the crowd really complains because they like to follow along.

I get the feeling that you are part of the audience that I do my best to appeal to.

Twisted hosts are the best kind. The more serious ones are usually reluctant to hand me a mic, much less play any of the CDG that I bring in. Technically speaking, though, the host is part of the audience in karaoke. Sometimes he is one of the few who bother to applaud, to which I usually respond with something like, "Thank you...both of you."
