Can anyone give me a recommendation for a good powered sub for under $700 please.

We just went through this. Do a search for "subwoofer"

Carvin LS180NA - 18", 700 watts, 62 lbs (lightweight compared to most subs), single channel crossover built in.

Mackie SRM1801 - 18", 1000 watts (peak), 73 lbs, dual channel/stereo crossover built in at a fixed frequency

JBL PRX518S - 18", 1000 watts (peak), 79 lbs - this is actually a blemish item (1 only left, full manu warranty & store return policy in effect)

Any one of these would be a good sub for under $700.

What is the rest of your system that the subs would be being added to?

QSC 2450, Ev sx250 , Zed 22fx. I am not a pro dj or anything. It's strictly for home use.

I saw this really cheap one from AMS. It's probably not good?

Well it's really cheap because it's not a powered sub. But the powered version isn't great & will run $500 and only push 300 watts. Your QSC amp is pushing 500 watts per channel. You want a sub with an amp (be it separate or built in) that at LEAST puts out as much power as the QSC 2450. Any of the ones I linked to would be a decent match for that setup although you may want to consider an external crossover to really compliment the setup.

what does the crossover do?

It divides the frequencies & send just the frequencies the sub is able to reproduce efficiently and the rest to your EV cabs so their is no overlap in frequencies. So say you set your crossover at 100hz, your subwoofer will get everything up to 100hz (low/sub frequencies like bass and kick drum), your EV cabs would get everything from 100hz on up. This not only relieves the EV cabs from having to reproduce them lower frequencies, but they will sound clearer and not have to work as hard.
