Did a private party gig this afternoon, in a small outdoor pavilion. I used my big rig except instead of hauling the subs and S112Vs I pulled out my Yorkville YX215 powered speakers. Though those are really for small-venue karaoke with my little rig, the crowd was country and older, and I knew I wouldn't be pumping dance music. So I thought they would do the job.

Well, I thought it worked well and sounded good. After the party was over, a couple of people came over. One booked the entertainment for the local festivals, and the other was a musician. Both said they were amazed at the sound -- how crisp and clear it was, and so full sounding -- but you could still carry on a conversation. Now they are talking about how they can squeeze me into next year's festival, just because it sounded so much better than any other karaoke they had ever heard.

Thank you Yorkville! (Not to mention Yamaha, Lexicon, and Shure.)

Unless I'm reading something wrong the YORKVILLE YX215 are 600 watt dual 15" speakers that weigh 78lbs each. I would expect them to sound good

Yes, you are right. They are the YX15P, my bad. They are two-way bi-amped 180w / 20w with a 15" woofer, weigh about 50 lbs. They are not high-end speakers, but sound phenomenal for the $780.00 I paid for the pair.

I say that using those speakers was a great case of matching your equipment with your needs.....

yeah a 3 driver cabinet as the "small club" karaoke rig had me wondering too. Although our most common club rig for the bands is a pair of Mackie powered 3-ways (SA1521's) and the matching SRS1500's.

I bought them for dual purpose -- small-venue party like a home or small bar, and for monitor speakers when I do my big rig.

I also use them for public speaking sound reinforcement, as I volunteer for a number of organizations and people know I do sound. When they have a big meeting in my area, I usually get a call (two or three times per year). It is amazing how people don't notice a good job in that type of work. When they notice it is the next function after they have had me -- they get frustrated with the sound and contrast it with the previous one.

Almost all my work is charity/volunteer. I don't really charge money, though the hat is usually passed and I have gotten as much as $275.00 like that. Yesterday was about $190. I would have done it for free, as it was for friends of mine, but it is nice to get gas/CDG money.
