The idea that "you get what you pay for" really doesn't apply to software. It doesn't matter what you pay for the tool so long as it's the one that does your job.

Compuhost for example, just doesn't do what I want a hoster to do. I wouldn't use it if it was free. That doesn't mean it's a bad piece of software. It's just not right for me.

I came to this forum to find out what a professional KJ wants from his/her software, and what singers want from their KJs. What I found was that each KJ was different and no hosting package could cover all that bases and singers just want to have fun.

Therefore my suggestion to the OP was: Download all the demos and see which one is right for you. I still think that's the best advice.

And it's good advice.

I normally tell people to look at how you run a show and what you want the software to provide. Build a list of features.

Then automatically cross off the ones that don't do what you need - and then test the others.

For example, if the software only does one type of rotation and that's not what you do then it's going to be you fighting the software all night long...

But each and every person runs a show a little differently and some don't run their show at all.

I have siglos, but it's $99 PER YEAR.

Siglos is $99 per license. That includes 1 year of updates. If you choose to renew updates it costs $29 for next year. But the original version does not stop working, so you may continue to use it without paying anything extra.

Been using Siglos player recorder for 5 years and no problems. I have siglos pro but dont use it due to pain in the A$$ when people bring their own disc's. I know Matt (Knightshow) is looking down saying Nuttin beats Winamp but for me Siglos player recorder has been my favorite of all the hosters Ive demo'd
Just my three cents

Hell for a simple player, no bells or whistles (other than the custom disc benefit), you can actually run a show with MTU Microstudio for about $40 or so.

2 years on Siglos and it works great for me. hoster has a lot of features, but not quite as customizable as i wanted, same with compuhost. try them, manipulate them, and see which feels right for you........does this all seem familiar to you too?

I don't view $179 as being a "small fortune" at all. It's a drop in the bucket...less than one night's work, especially for such a vital piece of my rig.

I would have hoped the host was bigger than the rig.
My rig is loud. I use Compuhost.

Meh, just use autokdj. I think the biggest problem folks have with it is the "auto" part. Some people prefer to be hands on running a show, while others (like myself) would rather drop their robot KJ off at a venue and let it run things while they shmooze the crowd (or in my case, sit outside all night getting paid to be doorman on top of KJ)

and it is FREE

When I went to pull the latest updates it wanted me to pay $99 AGAIN - not $29. If it was $29 I'd have just paid it and gone on my merry way - even though the work flow wasn't the 'best'....
