I really think the biggest issue with fog/haze machines is fire detection systems that can be triggered solely by particulates, as opposed to also requiring heat to activate. These are unusual, but I don't use fog or haze without checking with a venue manager first and gaining their permission. Also, in smokey bars, particulate detectors will be triggered by cigarette smoke anyway.

I have had the fire department show up at a wedding. I was not using fog/haze, but the sheer number of cigar and cigarette smokers in the room, plus poor ventilation, caused the fire system to go off. The music was so loud no one heard the alarm, and we were not aware of the problem until the fire department arrived!

It was very funny to get everyone in the whole building to stand still during a wedding reception while the manager reset the fire system, which was also connected to the motion detectors for the security alarm.

The bridesmaids all got pictures with the firemen and their trucks. A memorable wedding, to be sure!

I can't believe Skid Rowe isn't in this thread yet - hee hee. My lighting has kind of sucked, but I'm working on upgrading it and you guys are putting out some good ideas.

I have some par cans which I've just used to light my singers, but now I've splurged on a Chauvet 400g Follow Spot because I think it will be handy for weddings as well as karaoke. Dimming the lights and spotting the couples during the Grand Entrance should make for a nice dramatic touch. I think there will be some awesome pics to be taken of the singers in the spotlight as well -- but I need to make some sunglasses available.

Now I want to find a cheap DMX controller if anyone has any recommendations, because the follow spot has the ability to change colors which would be nice for some occasional mood setting. I found a little gadget that reacts to sound to plug the par cans into and that should liven things up a bit as well...

A follow spot? Man that's ambitious. Do you really have a venue where you can get enough elevation so as not to blind the singer?

Won't happen.
When I use mine I blind them.
The damage isn't permanent.
Then again even my LED panels blind them.
But to be fair... I am very fair on this.
I blind the audience as well.

One of the BEST investments I have made to date was buying a Chauvet 4-Bar LED system.

It changed the entire mood of my shows. Plus they look incredible and use a whopping 46 watts total! If I was to use standard PAR cans I'd be blowing breakers all over the place. It's just one stand...easy to use in even the smallest venues. I have even used them in peoples living rooms for private parties. Point one light at the ceiling and you wash the entire room.

Expensive, yes...but WELL worth the money. I am saving up for a 2nd unit to daisy chain together. Pictures do not do it justice. The colors really pop. I can't say enough about it.

Depends on the cans and what else you have on the circuit. ;)

I use traditional PAR 38 cans for uplighting and can put more than 20 cans on a 15 amp circuit. ;)

Besides, every try doing candlelight or pastels on an RGB LED par can? Not happening. :D

But I have a friend with this setup and it's pretty nice. I'm using 4 ADJ Par 56 cans on a light bar to do the same thing.
