I found this amp on Ebay and am considering paying upto $600 for it used

Ebay link is here:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... K:MEWAX:IT

Here is some info from their website:
http://www.questaudio.net/news/qa3004.php

User manual with spec is here:
http://www.questaudio.net/pdf/QASeries.pdf

Has anyone used this amp and would you recommend it for my EV SX300s? I might be upgrading to EV ZX4's soon, would they also work for those?

Thanks

Vic in Sydney

PS: Am I crazy if I feel like some butter chicken and naan for brekkie today?

don't have much experience with these guys, but IMO, you could get a Crown xls2500 for the same 600 brand new. either one will work for either speaker, but even the zx4's are 400w rated @8ohm so either amp will drive them safely. another factor is weight. the Quest is just a hair over 50lbs, and the crown is just under 11lbs. and Quest vs. Crown? that's up to you, but personally i would rather buy an amp used in the biggest venues and touring rigs around the world for the same price as a used other brand.

I have never heard of Quest Audio. The specs look good, but since NONE of the leading live sound retailers sell it, I would be careful. Good rule of thumb, if it isn't good enough for Sweetwater.com, it likely isn't that good :)

I just bought a QSC PLX1804 for my EV sx300s, and they sound great. At 600 watts/per channel/8 ohms, it is a perfect program match for the sx300s. QSC also has a 6 year tranferrable warranty and the amp weighs 13 lbs. I lucked out and got mine for $300.00 from a guy that was upgrading a studio setup. They seem to average about $400-500 used on EBay, about $700-800 new.

I have a Crown XLS 602 amp that powers my mobile setup, and it is certainly not a bad amp, but it is pretty vanilla in its sound. I wouldn't buy it over again. In fact, I'm getting ready to sell it and replace it with the Yamaha amp that I used to have in my club rig. Apparently, pre-2006 Crown amps were 100% made in the USA and very good quality, but they have since outsourced production to Asia and quality has suffered somewhat. You can find XLS series Crown amps for pretty cheap on E-Bay new and used.

What he said. I second that.

You know, after thumbing through their webpage a bit, I might change my tune somewhat. Quest is an Austrailian company, so I guess just because they do not market to the U.S. doesn't mean they don't make good stuff.

It looks like they have quite an extensive resume of high-end installs, so I'm sure it is quality stuff.

As an owner of the sx300s, I'd still recommend the QSC PLX1804 if you can find it for less than the Quest amp.

The QSC PLX1804 retails for AU$1400 over here.

If I am able to swing the quest for $600 that is a major saving. I will keep my eye out for a QSC, but I am not hopeful I will be able to get one at the $600 mark. Welcome to Australia...

Thanks all for your feedback - always appreciated.
