Tonight I did a one off.
I had a pro singer come up to me and say,
I thought this was only supposed to be karaoke.

YES.

What have you had?

I had mixed a band maybe five times when I was asked to help a friend and supply monitor world, all the PA, and most of the amplification for a local band that tours on both sides of the Atlantic, as well as two openers, at a high-dollar fundraiser/party. His monitor engineer bailed on him, so at the last minute he asked me to do that also.

I thought I was in over my head and was constantly afraid of screwing up, until I realized that none of the musicians knew it was my first time, and all of them stopped by monitor world to thank/compliment me; and my PA was more than adequate for the lively crowd. Also, the headline singer climbing onto an 8 foot stack of speakers and singing from up there was almost as cool as when he rode a motorcycle through the crowd to get to the stage (in full costume.)

At the end of that 17 hour day, when the last piece of gear was finally on the truck and I realized I really pulled off something I didn't think I could do, that was a "YES!" moment for me.

Also recently, a group of 7 bands rescheduled a fundraiser/benefit they had planned from their original date, to another one two months later, because the venue assumed they could hire me to provide sound & lights, but I was already busy on the first date. They could have got someone else (it's not like I'm doing it for free) but I learned how much they appreciated my hard work on a previous event when they changed all their schedules so I could be available for them.

Now this could actually not be a yes moment.....if you were mixing in a few non-karaoke dance requests.....

I have a yes moment when I get compliments on a party at the end of the night. The biggest yes moment, though, is when DJing a teen dance and I play just the right song and the kids all scream. Nothing lke it.

Absolutely a YES on those. Last thing they expect of me, obviously older than most of their mothers, is that I know enough about their music to pull it out of the hat. Always great, and makes me glad that I spend more than a reasonable amount of time with headphones on listening to music. the perfect set list is always a YES.

When a newcomer referred to the patrons as my cult following and they had never seen anything like it before. LOL

Cool a little brag session. After all the cranky threads lately I think we all deserve to do a little boasting.

I had a couple yes moments this week. This past weekend it was having a gig in a bar I hadn't played in a while and realizing that the bar was packed and that everyone there except for a group of 4 people were my regulars. Bar tender told me at the end of the night that it was the best night she'd had in months.

The other was getting to listen to the live recordings (straight off my console) from two bands I mixed last week. We played them back on the ProTools rig in our studio's control room. Our WAMI award winning and Berkley educated audio engineer (who is also my mentor so to speak) kept telling me how much he loved the mix and when we were done listening through both told me he was glad I did the gig because he couldn't imagine a better mix.
:D

Something close. My best friend, who is a musician, is throwing a bachelor party for his brother. The guys are going to rent a house and jam for hours on end. He wants to borrow my equipment specially my powered speaker, mostly for vocal, so they can jam loud and wide open.

Last weekend, they jammed for 16 hours! He was suppose to return the equipment this week but he asks me that they loved my equipment. They are all hardcore band members too. Matter of fact, he wants to borrow the speakers for his brother's wedding! Of course, I said he can. He kept telling me how the band members raved about the speaks and such.

If the musicians are impressed, I must have a decent system.

You are so generous. I don't think I could let others use my equipment without fear something would happen. Being so giving says something about your character. Eben you are a good person.

Thanks so much for kind words. The way I figure about life is that things can be replaced but relationships are hard to fix. My friend I have known since 1977, a long time. It's a wonder we kept in touch all this time, despite our differences. Thanks again.

I've been getting my yes feeling since last weds. A singer at the show keeps telling me that I did a great job at the show. The show was for a non profit mental health social club that I belong to. I just love to see the members come out of their shells to sing.

Singing "Roundabout". Actually it's like 8-1/2 YES minutes.

When someone asks you to sing a song (doesn't happen that often for me but still...)
When someone dances to a song you are singing
When someone says they are glad you sang a certain song
When you step up to the mic and at the first few words you know the sound system is awesome...
