???????????????????????? 500?
For private events, absolutely. I have a friend who charges $300, and he does about twice as many as me, but he also has to pay someone to cover his bar gig whenever he does one, and he ... does twice as many as me. So I am making more while working less.
I have much more sound and lighting equipment than most DJ/KJs, though; and I do not really do any small venues that hold 50 people or whatever. When those jobs come my way I try to pass them on to friends who charge less. These same friends send bigger jobs to me, or sometimes they rent my equipment.
I thought that was for a bar gig. Not totally out of line, Depends where you are I suppose. I remember you are near Louisville. Around here, that price would leave you at home weekend after weekend. The most I have made so far is $400 and I had to drive an hour each way. I have a straight DJ gig this weekend at a small high school homecoming for $350. Only playing for 3 hours.
Just fine tuning my skills for next year in Toronto where there is plenty of money to be had.
