It's funny, when I was young, I was a bit uptight about hugging people. Then I dated an Italian girl and her folks liked me and her dad hugged me everytime he saw me and I started thinking you know - I know he's straight and this is kind of nice that he likes me this much. Next thing I knew I was a hugger too. Trouble is, i got married and the wife gets jealous if I hug the ladies so now I'm back to not hugging so much unless it's family or a good friend.

When I was young I'd say it had to do with broad shoulders. Now it probably has a lot more to do with a big waist.

It seems I love good food as much as good karaoke.

It's become kind of a joke at my shows -- people say when they decide to get up and leave, the hug fest takes 20 minutes at least....pretty hilarious, really. Yes, we are a hugging bunch, even the men. Some give a peck on the cheek, too. I always shake hands with new patrons...and usually they initiate a hug next time they come in. Just the way we are around this neck of the woods.

LMAO oh Johnny

You're not that short. I'll be careful next time I go for hug though. LOL

From Lonnie...Nah, I don't hug people I don't know so handshakes apply there. But once I get to know you a little, hugs are fine. As far as shaking hands - i've been pulled into hugs from a simple handshake maybe not a hug per se but a pulled handshake to the point where one arm goes around the back while still shaking hands - this happens with guys more. Again, it's just very commonplace around here these days. Everyone hugs everyone.

That is exactly how it's done around at my shows. Very common place, if I don't know you at all..you get a minimum hand shake, maybe a pat on the shoulder welcome. If I know you, you're probably going to get a hug of some type. I have dealt with the 'non-hugger', I have converted most of them in a very short time.

It's just a common gesture....MrD

Yeah....it's okay to hug I suppose...if it's genuine because a person really likes you.

I was always thought of as "different" because I didn't cup the kj's a$$ cheeks while we hugged. She said I was the only one who didn't. It was out of respect that I didn't.

What I didn't realize until later was that a$$ cheek cupping was probably okay as long as the muscle bound boyfriend of hers didn't catch me.

Karaoke shows are one big gropefest anyway....if you're in, you're in man!

Don't go gettin' all weird Johnny! :newlol:

It's funny to find out the hug fest is ramped at many shows.

I haven't had a hug go wrong incident yet. Except maybe this very large drunk irish woman I have that comes to my shows. People run when they see her. She hugs and doesn't let go. LOL I have long hair and she always seems to be on it when she hugs me. Very painful at times to get a hug from her.

I try to only do hugs when people leave. Of course there are hugs before hand also especially if I haven't seen you in a while, but before the show sometimes can be ridiculous. Hug after hug after hug in a row. I even have these 3 girls that compete to get the 1st hug. LOL People leave at different times, so it's easier to do the hug thing then.

Hugs are for regulars I've gotten to know. It is a bit uncomfortable hugging a guy I just met. They get the fist bump. LOL

What is wrong with a full-on tight hug? I say nothing!!! Not even between 2 men!! It's simply a way to "connect". Now if the "other" person does not feel the same way, then respect their space, but hugging is my way of saying "hello my friend", nothing sexual, nothing perverse, just saying "hello, I acknowledge you". When you let them go, simply look them in the eye and say hi, or nice to see you, or thank you, or whatever the situation calls for. Like i said though, if the "other" person is uncomfortable with it, then by all means, simply look them in the eye and say the same things. Trust your heart and feel where they are coming from. Your heart will NEVER lie to you, your head or ego will mislead you, but your heart knows.

If I hug a guy, I just make sure back is arched and butt is away!

Seriously, I married into an Italian family (hence the Italian trip this month) and everyone greets everyone, guys/guys, guys/girls, girls/girls with a hug and a cheek to cheek left right smooch.

Besides, if you hug guys, you know people won't think you are a perv when you try to hug all the hot chicks!

What if you hugged them sitting down? I would imagine you're there well past when all the customers leave -- stay seated and wait to tear down until after they've gone. You'll probably be at a better level if you're sitting down, rather than standing?

Just a thought.

For me, it's a personal space thing. Don't enter mine, and I sure won't enter yours. And most can sense that about me when we meet. As far as connecting, I don't feel I need to; in a physical manner anyway. I'm not trying to be a hard-@$$ here; it's just how I've always been. With that said, our clientele include many senior citizens, two of which seem to have adopted us as family and I just can't elude that obligatory hello/goodbye hug.

I’m certain I’m not alone in how I feel on this.

I had a regular, about 75 I think he said, sang great - 50's, 60's country and then a a handful of newer songs (although not as well as the older stuff), he was not a hugger - at first. I think he was of the old school mind frame that men should just shake hands, we got him to change his tune after a couple months, then he hugged EVERYBODY! He don't come in as often anymore, moved away, but when he pops in, he'll go hug everyone he sees - well ok that he knows which is lots of people.
